Most common domains have basic whois privacy that is enabled by default while registering it. Most vendors give this for free only a few charge for this. But many do have additional enhanced privacy services that they may charge for.
Some country code domains require the domain owner info to be clearly visible (like India domains .in) so whois privacy is not possible for those and registrar can’t provide options for that
If the contact details are not present the Indian domain registrar can disable the domain. So yes your contact details can be known from the domain. This is one of the reasons many don’t prefer the .in domain name.
It is the registrar who redacts it from WhoIs while recording the registered data to the register. Hence it is a paid service in most cases.
I have also been using Spaceship for several years as I use a fake name and don’t need to provide documents. You will probably get screwed if you use an Indian registrar.
I used namesilo for almost a decade without any issue. Recently I tried hostinger as I wanted to find a registrar I could pay with UPI. No issue for past 1 year. Planning to get a few more with this blackfriday deals.
Having tried GoDaddy, Namecheap, BigRock for years, I can say that all of them increase their domain fees by a lot on renewals. Have been using Cloudflare since 3 years, pretty happy with their service.
Since Cloudflare started adding GST, they became much more expensive than other options. Not that I need a .com domain anymore. Switched to co.in for my purpose as it is much cheaper to purchase and renew.
So, I have been using .in domain (GoDaddy) with free Zoho mail and the domain is due for renewal on 29-12-2025. GoDaddy’s renewal price has increased to Rs.1061 (899 + GST).
Please suggest any cheaper domain transfer option which can be used with Zoho mail.
This domain (+mail) is primarily used only for Samsung corporate account.
No personal experience with any of these registrars except I have all my domains in porkbun (was using namecheap earlier) and one basic hosting account in hostingraja for testing. No issues till now.
I discarded the earlier plan of getting a .in domain due to KYC and other shenanigans by the Indian registry.
