Choosing health insurance for parents

guys im getting health insurance for my parents (both 57) for 50L coverage.

i watched all health insurance videos by LLA on Youtube. Contacted ditto narrowed it down to 3.

HDFC ergo optima secure

Care Supreme

Aditya birla activ one

my dad had angioplasty last year the ditto guy said hdfc most likely will not agree for the policy. so i have care and aditya birla left.

i have looked into every details and all required addons. the thing i can’t check are how well company handels claims. premium amount doesn’t matter to me i just want my parents to have stress free experience in case of emergency.

so if any of you have had personal experience with these policies please leme know how hassle free claim process would be.

Don’t go for care , I had similar requirement , you can search for my thread on care here.

I had very good experience with hdfc for my parents. I will suggest applying anyway and let them either reject you or send a higher quote.

If you are looking for data regarding claims handled, go to irdai website and download last annual report. In the tables, Check claim ratio and claim settlement ratio. The latter is more important and rarely advertised.

at this point you should just go with the one that’s accepting the risk.

my brother, he’s younger than me, never got insured. now after a few hospitalizations for lithotripsy and some more unfortunate health conditions, he’s seeking to get insured after looking at the costs. Aditya Birla sales guy offered to take proposal but I was on call with them and know that no underwriter will take on the risk.

the best time to buy insurance was yesterday and the next best is today.

they will all act the same in the event of a claim. it’s bad but it is what it is.

My parents just took a separate insurance cover for them as my corporate one had lapsed and after a few months of digging they settled for the icici elevate , my dad says it’s one of the best out there , so please do check this one before making a decision guys

Do not go for SAHI (Stand alone health insurance) companies. Get quotes from these 3 companies 1) HDFC ERGO OPTIMA SECURE 2) ICICI HEALTH ELEVATE 3) TATA AIG MEDICARE PREMIER. Bajaj Allianz also was good but not sure how it is now after bajaj acquiring majority stake. Also insist on getting a Pre-Policy Medical Check-up done. Also you can consult beshak advisors it’s totally free and you can check their credentials and tell them your preferred advisor. They’ll give you a comparison. Also have to add many riders for elevate policy for it to be competitive like room rent restriction removal addon, consumables.

For senior citizens, if nothing there is a star health insurance tie up with bank of india. I would not consider it at all, but if nothing is there, this is acceptable.

Also opt for these govt. schemes (free) no harm even if its just 50k etc. amount

17 Types of Government Health Insurance Schemes in India
