Compact ITX PC Build for Work & Gaming - Help Needed

Hello folks,
I’m working on a compact mini-ITX build that should handle both content creation (Adobe Premiere, some 3D work) and gaming (1440p high settings). My challenge is fitting everything into a tight space while keeping temps and noise low.
Here’s my current parts list:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070

  • Motherboard: X670E ITX

  • RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000

  • Case: Mini-ITX cube with 240mm top radiator support

  • Cooling: AIO 240mm or high-end air cooler

  • PSU: SFX 650W 80+ Platinum

Questions I’d like help with:

  • Given the size, should I go with a 240mm AIO or stick to premium air cooling for thermal headroom?

  • Any case recommendations that offer best airflow for GPU + CPU in a compact size?

  • With RTX 4070 and that CPU, will 32 GB RAM be enough or should I go 64 GB?

Really appreciate the community’s advice - thanks!

Check with them if they have this in stock. Mesh offers better cooling compared to the Glass panel one.

I went through this exercise for my personal PC a while ago. I have also recently built 2 ITX systems for editor friend of mine who actually travels with this pc in his work van and also in his specially modified suitcase on airlines.

First decide do you really need to go ultra compact. With the smaller size comes lot of compromises and build challanges including cooling. Your GPU is only modest cooling challange. Not high TDP card like I had to use in systems I built. But if you can spare a little bit more desk space, always go for m-ATX mini towers like CH260 from deepcool or Montech Heritage PRO (expensive but really classy and exceptionally well built). So you still get relatively compact case but little more room to work with inside than ultra compact ITX cases and these cases also fit big 240 and 360 AIOs

If you must go proper ITX case, double- triple check your GPU and AIO clearances. Something like TR100 can take 3 slot GPU and 240mm aio, but will need finger gymnastics. Its really tough to build it in ITX cases if you have big hands or fat fingers like mine. I still have few cuts and scrapes on hands which are still healing from the build I did couple of weeks back

Availability of coolers which fit in these ITX cases is also another issue you have to deal with if going air coolers. Check clearances and availability. Many big stores mark certain coolers in stock but they are actually not in stock and they never bothered to update it as its low sale item.

RAM is at 2 year high right now. Get 48GB kit or if you can fork the money, then 64GB. Higher the better for your work.

+1 for Deepcool Ch160.

Very nice cabinet for the price. I ‘ve got 2 of them, both mesh and side glass version.

Very good cooling

As you’ve mentioned you’ll be using SFX PSU you can mount a front fan and no issues with GPU length but it doesn’t support liquid cooling, still you can use some big cooler like I am using Noctua D15 Cromax.

There’s a newer version slightly bigger deepcool Ch160 PLUS , do check out it’s slightly bigger and supports micro Atx boards and liquild cooler too.

32 GB Ram is sufficient if it’s available for a good price.

Hello,

I disagree with the others on the case/chassis.

Here’s what I would suggest (order of personal preference)

  1. Lian Li A4 H20 (double check your AIO specs)
  2. Fractal Design Ridge
  3. Fractal Design Mood
  4. Ssupd Meshlicious
  5. HYTE metal revolt 3
  6. Cheap? Silverstone SG13 (4k inr)

Again, double check, triple check your parts list and tolerances, check reviews online and only then pull the trigger.

The first two are what I’d recommended. I would’ve built using A4 H20 but the ITX motherboards for AM5 were too expensive at that point.

Anything other than the first and second on the list I shared is slightly larger than what Is personally consider for a sff build, but you do you.

Other suggestion would be to double or more the RAM capacity.

64GB or the newer 96GB kits (48gb x2) would be my recommendation. I’m running 128gb for reference.

If you want to go the A4 h20 route and ur open to the used route.. lemme know I have a few months old cooler master v850x atx 3.1 psu and a A4 h2o black.. I’m going to list in a day or two for sale. Also have a 9600x.

Cooler Master NR200 is also known to be great for air cooling.

Honorable mention to Sama 01 aka Zebronics Woodan. ~ 20 liter case that supports mATX MB and ATX psu. Great for budget compact builds.

Well you would be lucky to even get one second or third hand. Like all good things, it’s an unicorn.

Never crossed my mind that SAMA might be oem for various Indian brands as well! What about the cheapo ANT cases? Who manufactures them?

Cheap ANT eSports cases are cheap OEM chinese cases rebranded and sold here. RMA is non existent in ant eSports case. So don’t expect much from them.

I got that, zebronics is the same. But the sama im01 is a somewhat well regarded case and I was surprised to learn that it was sold here as a zebronics sku. So it’s possible that there might be other similar cases rebranded by other companies which might be worth checking out, after sales service notwithstanding.

If you go to brick and mortar stores in SP Road or CTC Shenoy Trade Center then you might find Galax Rev. 3 mATX case sama im pro clone for 4.5k.
I bought this case 3 years ago and recently sold it for 2k here in TE.

I am actually considering a new cooler master elite 302. Looks like a basic, good all-rounder mATX case. No reviews yet on the internet though.

You can also look at this:

I bought this for 3.4k and it looks good.

Definitely looks good. Also the msi logo is actually oriented such that if you keep the case horizontally (which I’m planning to do since I want to keep it on my tv console) the logo is right side up.
