Also is this whole is normal right.
Yes, thatâs wrong. Two issues:
- The shield isnât properly seated in the case, bang out the top corners with mallet.
- The tabs of the shield ended up inside your hdmi and display port connectors, thatâs no good.
That plate inside the hdmi port can cause a lot of issue. Donât want voltage getting pulled into the earthing ( cabinet is generally considered earth )
Reassemble asap.
Youâll need to bend those to the side of the dp and hdmi ports, inside not outside.
You didnât have to pull it out..
But this will do the job and shouldnât short out anything now..
Edit: I meant that the tabs were meant to be folded inside only, just not inside the port, theyâre meant to sit beside the port..
Your method will work if u wish to avoid completely removing the board.
This is an example image I found on the web:
This is somewhat how theyâre meant to sit inside, next to the ports..
Do it again⊠properly ![]()
Thereâs no real need, it would just be another hassle to completely remove the board now.. I think the pc is already built..
You arenât going to use those ports anyway cuz u have a gpu. Donât bother now.. Leave them bent outwards
Afaik these are just used for alignment, but I am not 100% sure, maybe others can add to that..
Theyâre called EMI spring contacts or grounding fingers, they do what it sounds like they do.
They ground the connector housing with the case, helping in the case of ESD discharge from a cable that youâre connecting.
They also help with signal integrity that creep up due to EMI issues, particularly important for hdmi and displayport.
What you have done is a jugaad and will work.
If you still have the itch to reassemble, it needs to be bent inward.
Grounding pin is safe now.
But I guess if you are not connecting the cable at all, it doesnât matter?
Considering he has a gpu, the cable would go to the gpu?
You had ONE job!!! now do it again and tuck it inside!!
Just kidding. Itâll work all the same though you might get some cables stuck sometimes.
