So I have this copy magsafe charger which looks exactly like how apple used to sold their 5000mAh one. The one I have even itself charges using lightning connector.
I know it is copy one and it was cheaper one at like 400 rupees or so. I got it from Malaysia. I know what I was going into.
My main question is, do magsafe chargers heat the iPhone (I have iphone 13)? I have had multiple instances where my phone would stop charging and give the message that iphone will resume charging once it has cooled down.
I have also seen that it gets more hot when simultaneously using phone and using charger. And in most cases the phone battery percentage doesn’t even move up. Basically it is just keeping the percentage intact.
Also, I have seen this issue years back with knock off apple chargers wherein your screen would stop responding sometimes when the charger is in use. Same happens with this magsafe one too.
My general question is that even if i buy better brand like ambrane or portronics will it heat my phone and possibly cause screen touch issues (temporarily)?
I recently bought an Ambrane for a different purpose. It has MagSafe charging, so I have been using it with my iPhone 15 occasionally. Heating issue is definitely there even when I don’t use the phone. However, it’s not so bad and I have not yet come across the “cooling down” warning.
All qi/magnetic chargers will heat any phone during wireless charging.
The energy transfer process for wireless charging is inherently more inefficient than wired and all that energy loss dissipates as the heat you see.
Now there are a few magsafe chargers that house small fans - an old samsung wireless charger i have on my desk and a spigen unit I use in my car have these fans that manages to keep the phone fairly cool.
Now many people say that this heating is within design parameters and wont impact the phone/battery in any way.
They are probably right too.
However i use wired charging for the most part , esp for overnight charging as i dont find it particularly inconvenient
Yes, MagSafe (wireless) charging always generates more heat than wired charging, but excessive heat, charging pauses, and touch issues are not normal and indicate poor quality.
I bought Nextech MagSafe, which charged well but had heating issues. Then I bought Anker, which has heating issue under control, but it does not charge effectively. If your phone gets too hot, it may temporarily have touch issues.
Not talking about this topic, but in general it matters where you live and what the ambient temps are.. I recently sold an old macbook, which was listed sometime around july last year, that’s when I did my testing, it wasn’t in use for a long time so I was unaware, but it was heating a lot during my testing.. So I had mentioned heating as an issue.. I live in delhi and it reaches over 50c during summers.. When the deal was finalized last month, it didn’t heat as much cuz temps were around 20c last month here.. That’s why it was heating during that time and was completely fine last month when it was sold in bangalore which isn’t as hot, even in summers..
I am using ambrane magsafe one and it heats the device. Just use it as emergency backup. The heat is not much that will make you uncomfortable to hold it.
Is there anyone using “Urbn ARC Magtag” 10000mAh for their iPhone. Suggested it to my cousin who has iPhone 13 as there are lot of instances of quality issues among ambrane and boat powerbanks
I have faced the same heating issue in my cars using wired carplay. That was because of sunlight + charging. Delhi summer. Very annoying when I need to use google maps.
Have a 10w samsung wireless charger (no fan) used with samsung 15w power adaptor for almost a decade. Got it with galaxy s8+. Have used many galaxy (10w) phones and iphones (7.5w) without issue. Phone does get hot but usable. Have just bought (in transit) a samsung 15w wireless charger (IDK about fan) to be used with a spare samsung 25w power adaptor.
No exp with magsafe but presume should be similar.
I normally use wired 12w apple (lightning) usb a charger and multiple wired 25w samsung usb c chargers. Have given away all my 5-10w chargers over the years. Now I have a few usb c devices (water dispenser, flashlight, etc.) which don’t work with the 25w samsung charger.
I only have 1 phone (samsung f55) at home which is 45w compatible. Use with 45w samsung charger and original samsung 5a cable. No complaints received.
Can someone create a thread for recommended power banks. I need a compact 20w+ power bank for a samsung flip 7.
