You can configure the wireless repeater - through the 5 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz channels either wirelessly or using an ethernet cable. The location of the repeater should be in an area which gets atleast 50% of signal strength of the origin router (only in case of repeater configured via WiFi ).
A faster way to ensure signal beyond walls and get a good signal strength is to get a wired backhaul. This will ensure the best signals, lower latencies and similar WiFi speeds as compared to the original router.
