Hello everyone

I m looking to upgrade my PC to a new one
I built it in 2016 and it has served me well, but has now started to show its age, so I am looking to overhaul everything
(I am currently on a 1060 6GB)

My requirements:
1440p gaming at high settings without having to look for upgrades in the next 4~5 years
Budget: ~ 1.3 L, can go above this if I feel it is worth it
I mainly play RPGs, RTS and some action games as well

This is what I have shortlisted

Question here is:
Is the 9060XT something that will last me for the next 5 years or so, or should I just bite the bullet and choose a 9070 class card instead
The only thing that bothers me about today’s GPU pricing is that they cost way more than my PS5, which makes me wonder if they are worth that kind of money

Any other tips / suggestion are welcome
I am not a PC expert, just a middle aged guy looking to relax with some video games

Some points:

  1. Get an AMD AM5 cpu so that some upgrade path remains open for future. 7600x/non-x will do or a used 7700x will cost about the same around 18-20k.

  2. 9060 XT isnt built for high end 1440p gaming, 9070 XT is the way to go.

  3. You can buy a used/pulled SSD/ used cpu on the forum itself and save some bucks for gpu.

  4. You can get a 6000MHz CL30 RAM for around 1k more.

  5. The monitor you choose is a 60 hz 4k monitor why not go for a 144/165 hz QHD one.

  1. I didn’t understand this point. Are you suggesting AMD CPU due to the AMD GPU?
  2. People tell me that text and images are much sharper on a 4K monitor even with scaling, so I went with a 4K monitor. Didn’t look at the refresh rate though

No AMD has pledged support for the current cpu socket - AM5 atleast until 2027, this means the new generation of processors in the future can be used with the current mobo that you have if you plan to upgrade your cpu in the future, intel has abandoned its current cpu socket so you will have to get a new mobo for upgrading the intel cpu in the future.

On a different point, I also build my first SFF gaming PC in 2016 and it still plays at 1440p high setting in most newer AAA titles ( with occasional help from upscaling once in a while).

So surprised your system can’t do it but hey you do you ! Some good suggestions by el_diablo above. You would do good to follow them.

4K would obviously look better than 1440p, but 60hz for a gaming monitor is not viable. Get a high refresh rate 1440p instead.

^keeps going in and out of stock for around 16- 17 K. Worth every penny

A few reasons behind certain choices:

  1. The Lancool 216 is a bigger, better-built case for just a few hundred more, and is among THE best airflow-focused cases around

  2. For your needs, a high refresh rate QHD monitor will serve you better than a 60Hz 4K one. The higher refresh rate will make a difference for not just gaming, but day-to-day use cases. You’ll never want to go back to 60Hz again

  3. The 9070 will be much better suited here, and is only 12% slower than the 9070XT, but 40% faster than the 9060XT. You’ll get a great high refresh rate experience, given the resolution and the games you play

I’d second the build by @@PunkX 75, except for one. I’d go for the 7600X instead, because it has greater boost clock speeds. The flipside is power consumption.
