YGPM! I’ve a similar WD 80GB HDD from 2007 whose board went kaput. I had some unbacked-up data on that HDD which I’ll try to recover with this.

Thanks for the heads up. For now, I would just try the BIOS chip transplant thing, install this one’s PCB onto mine, and see if it works. I probably will leave it to pros if it comes to platter swapping; don’t have a place clean enough to carry it out.
I have the 2007 seagate 80gb which still works without issue. Didn’t expect it to work but it does
