Gmail now allows to change email address but can it counter this issue?

As we all know Google now allows to change Gmail address without losing any data.
The primary concern which instantly hit my mind was will the change in email address help counter spam?

Example: If abc@gmail.com was receiving a lot of spam and does changing the address to xyz@gmail.com helps start afresh and counter spam or everything will be as is except for the name change?

Has anyone tried it esp. the one who were receiving a lot of spam?

Emails sent to abc will still be sent to xyz as well. The email address change is simply an alias change.

In future , use alias emails like anonaddy. I use it a lot.

Holy crap then alias option is already present why the F even google advertises as if the original email changes.

Is this live yet. I tried it but I wasn’t able to change my old email ids

They are slowly rolling the feature for everyone as what I read.

I don’t have it yet. Hopefully I will get it soon. I have 3 embarassing email ids made during my school and college days lol

Gmail used to offer adding aliases but seems they have revamped the entire settings interface vertically where years ago it was pretty in-depth and horizontally aligned…the old school classic type.

Outlook is good for aliases but the interface sucks (web mail not the software)

I find it pleasing with less clutter.

I simply set a Rule in Gmail web interface to delete mails coming from unwanted domains.I never click those ‘Click here to unsubscribe’ links. It actually sell your email id to more spammers.

I use MS Outlook client pop3 access and then receive only genuine mails on my PC.

You can create a filter that moves/deletes/forwards emails sents to a recipient

I have done the same for all @ duck recipient addresses, there is a different label, excluded from main inbox

My dad’s email had ton of spam messages, mostly sent from a set of domains, i downloaded all the emails, sorted the sender emails by count and deleted over 2-3 lakhs email, there should be a sponsorblock like project where users can flag senders as spam

I would suggest getting a custom domain, connect it to zoho and create 5 custom emails (free plan). It will look much better, easy to remember, and your data will be safer.

Then signup for a google workspace plan (essentials - free again) and use that email address to create a workspace account. You will get google drive, google docs, meet.

Dont take a risk with tuta as it suspends free accounts. Proton is good. But the mail address looks too nerdy and unprofessional.

If you still require aliases, use duck.com. Works like a charm. Anondaddy is good too.

Makes sense. Otherwise all the places where you’ve subscribed for mails would also get messed up.
