Help me resolve TV audio issues with a separate speaker setup

My living room is rectangular in shape (it is actually combined living room + kitchen with wall torn down, years back), the length is about 20 feet. below is a drawing I did in draw.io.

Now you can see that the kitchen door (jodi flat so we removed one kitchen to make hall bigger, this kitchen door leads to the kitchen) is near the TV. For someone sitting on TV, normal volume of TV is low so I would increase volume to hear what’s going on. Problem with this approach is that the volume is too loud for someone in kitchen (they shout on me to reduce volume).

I want to make sure that the person sitting on sofa can hear everything clearly and at the same time, people in Kitchen or other rooms are not inconvenienced.

I feel the fix here is to get possibly soundbar + satellite speakers or only satellite speakers. Here is a simple setup I am trying with 4 satellite speakers installed on wall at top near ceiling.

The left side 2 are just above TV in respective corners. The middle 2 are on the beam which (sort of) divides the room.

Please suggest what approach I should take and also suggest what should I buy, see if you can give me specific brand and model (amazon etc link would be great).
Any other suggestion that you can give or have alternate solution, that too is fine.

If you have Smart-TV with Bluetooth you dont need to go to all this trouble.

I use a Marshall Willen II which can get very loud when needed. Use it as a nearfield Speaker. Just plonk it on a coffee table job done. Just disconnect to revert back to the TV speakers.

They get discounted at sale time, Amazon Prime Day sale starts in couple of weeks.

Not a smart TV. It is a 2010 model sony full HD lcd TV. For smart part, I have fire stick as primary device.

You should be able to test this setup by connecting a BT Speaker or Headset to the Firestick.

But this will only work with the Firestick of course not Satellite or Cable channels.

Bluetooth speaker only is not a feasible option. I want something wired and sort of permanent. I think I can possibly use optical out of TV to the speakers.
I still not to understand how it works connecting to multiple speakers. I guess there will be a hub or something.

Its called an Amplifier or something, Amp connects to TV with audio cables and then you connect the various speakers to the Amp

To use Optical you need to do one of the following:

  • Optical Out → DAC → Amp → Speakers

  • Optical Out → Soundbar

  • Optical → Receiver (either stereo or multi-channel) → Speakers

  • Optical Out → Active Speakers with Toshlink input

Anyway good luck in your quest.

I have an LG 32 inch TV. I use an external Optical to Analog converter as there no stereo out 3.5 mm connector.

The problem is while using the sound through Optical out I cannot control volume using the TV remote.

Please check your TV manual.

Bluetooth should work. My in laws use Bluetooth to connect their soundbar to tv as hdmi arc is buggy and the aux in has background noise. As long as you don’t have some pos speakers that keep losing pairing, it can be a permanent solution. Try running a wire across the living room and wait for your wife’s reaction:P

The cheap solution is to just buy a really long extension for your audio

You don’t need 4. Just 2 near the seating area should do fine.

I have a good suggestion for you. Purchase 5.1 wireless sound system or wired if you dont have any issues with wiring. You may put the woofer and the centre speaker under the tv. 2 front speakers in each side of the partition beam and the remaining two rear speakers on each side of the back of your sofa so that you can hear the voice properly. Speakers have setup to turn of rear speakers and only centre and the front speakers will work when you are watching news etc. and all speakers when you want to watch movies etc. As i placed the front speakers near the partition beam which is closure to you, you ll hear the sound properly without disturbing others. Drawing attached.(sorry for bad art  )

The TV is almost 15 years old now. You’re better off getting a new TV before investing in a sound system. Bluetooth seems to be the simplest solution.

Another way of getting bluetooth on your TV is by connecting it via Optical cable to a bluetooth transmitter like the one below:

https://www.amazon.in/Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Headphones-Speakers/dp/B0978V2CP6

This exactly was my vision too. I just don’t know what to even buy to get this setup.
I need help to understand which exact item to buy.

Do wireless satellite speakers exist? I really doubt and if they do, they maybe many fold expensive than wired I guess.

TV works great actually and is a 46 Inch LCD. I don’t see need to change plus I have had pretty big expenses so don’t have money for new TV. I know new TVs aren’t super expensive but whatever I buy next will be around 55 inch minimum from a reputed brand.

The setup I am trying right now may be repurposed with a new TV in future.

If you want a cheap solution you can buy this Artis SoundMax 200. Connect TV Audio Out to Aux input of this Speaker using long cable, (just have to put up with the hassle of unplugging the cable when not required, some TV’s automatically switch to Aux when they detect a cable plugged in (you can test this by plugging in just the cable without the speaker).

Cost you less than 2000 rs. Added benefit you can also use speaker via Bluetooth using your Phone.

You can check this and some other videos on the channel.
