Help with New UPS

Hi everyone, I live in an apartment that doesn’t have power backup so recently I bought this UPS. It’d been working well for me so far, lasted over 10 minutes while I was doing some light browsing.

The issue is when I’m playing Marvel Rivals while I have power, it performs fine in the lobby but when I get into a match, suddenly the indicator switches between red and green and starts beeping. The manual says that it indicates potential low runtime if UPS switches transfers to battery mode of operation and suggests unplugging devices one by one until the alert stops.

I don’t understand why this issue exists for just this game and I’m wondering what I can do to fix this. Am I screwed in that the only solution is to get a UPS with higher capacity?

When the game starts your graphics card pulls more power for intense load which your ups is unable to provide…get a bigger backup ups …your ups mentions on product page that it only supports entry level pc…

Unfortunately yes.

The UPS you’ve purchased is rated for 360W max, which is what gaming computers used back in the 90s.

I was in the same boat with my old up after my system upgrade. Ended up getting a new 1600VA one.

The old one can’t even handle a console + TV. Not sure what to do with it.

Use old one for router/switch etc I guess (if you don’t already have backup for router)

Does it work fine when playing other games?

I also have a same problem only when system is utilising full power and lasts longer at idle condition .my ups is a good one and it’s treated ones for my system

Yes, but honestly the other games I play are nowhere near as intensive, like Stardew Valley and recently some indie detective games.

I see, thanks. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn’t notice the 360W in the description. If I have a PSU of 550W and a 1080Ti, would this one rated for 660W work for my needs?

It clearly mentions only entry level pc

This one boldly claims it’s for gaming computers, and the reviews reflect that:

You can expect 10 to 20 minutes backup approximately on your system with this one

See, The easy, temporary solution would be to reduce the usage on your gpu, by reducing the graphics quality on your game or by reducing the power limits using afterburner..

But that will only work till u find another intensive game and start facing the issue again.. Or if u plan to upgrade..

The other option is to upgrade the ups, but that would be costly, and the original ups purchase would go to waste (unless you are still in the return window)

It is still in the return window, so I’m going to return it and upgrade in a few months. I bought this one for a sort of emergency situation where I had to attend an important meeting from home and this worked well while doing light browsing, but is clearly not enough for my primary needs. Better that I return it now while I can and get one fully suited for gaming as well :+1:

UPS are not meant for running pc, they are meant for saving the work &/or gracefully shutdown the pc. If you want to play games on a pc during power cuts then you need a suitable pure sinewave inverter with big batteries.

Put lfp battery. It will work for tv and console.

This is generic oem model. Many companies put name on this.

Gemini said this.

“Replacing the old lead-acid batteries in a 600VA UPS with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells is a cool project that will give you a much longer battery lifespan and extended runtime during an outage, but it will not increase the UPS’s capacity to 1100VA.”

Is this true? I’m a big noob when it comes to this.

No it will not increase capacity wattage wise.

But your lead acid battery has had its life. So its not able to handle console plus tv. Specially if its just not able to keep up even 30s. Console and tv should not exceed 400w. When idle 100-150w at max. It is able to keep it on for few mins while on ps5 menu?

Mine new 600va handles 1650 running at 100% along with tv enough to run it for few mins.

Replace battery. While replacing just replace it with lfp one from amazon. You will see way better performance. I had replaced it for my 1.1kva ups and it doubled its run time.

Curious as to where you bought it from, where returning is an option? If you bought from amazon, it says not returnable, and most independent stores wouldn’t take back an unsealed and used piece.
