Well the name of the topic says it all
How to get Hardware from outside India & Related Doubts
- Which are the Trusted Websites from which we can purchase.
- When we buy products from International Websites is the product
delivered straight at our doorstep or do we have to collect it from
somewhere [Customs] (What exactly happens when the product is
discharged from theie side how does it reach us exactly)
- Do the purchased product have International Guarantee/Warranty
- What if after getting the ordered product finally in your hand,
you feel its damaged or faulty & theydont even have a service center
here then do we need to courier back the faulty product back to them for verification so that we can get a replaced new one.
- How is the customs duty calculated on anything you get or order
from outside India.
- Suppose your friend gets some hardware for you from any foreign
country eg. RAM & your friend has those Ram in his luggage , how do the
customs know that you have this ram in your luggage and you have to pay
the duties for it. same goes for products like Mobo,GPU,CPU etc..
- How many days are spent for the ordered product from a website
to finally reach your hands.
- Has anyone ordered any product from an International Website ,
If yes can you share your experience with us.
As many gr8 hardware products are there which are not available here
have to be purchased from these websites. I have never in my life purchased anything from International Websites so am a bit worried and
wanted to clear these doubts before anything goes wrong.
I have seen many peoples signatues here having there comp configs
They have hardware which is hardly found here so thought you might be able
to help me out with my doubts.
Wating for response from your side.

Well for the cooling stuff you can try www.frozencpu.com and www.coolpc.com.au They ship to india… Though i never tried it but people on this forum have…

afain, there wont be a duty, if ur friend bring with him. (but i think there is a limit to how much u can bring)
Which stuff are you talking about… The prices on coolpc are australian dollars… The shipping costs are insane over frozen CPU otherwise prices are nice… The shipping costs on COOLPC are much lower…
The custom guys usually will never bother you for stuff that look like spare parts (RAM, GPU with packaging thrown away or anythng that looks like useless stuff to the less enlightened folks) ,custom officers obviously being one of em…
Just don’t declare that stuff…if they ask, u can always say it 's a 1$ replacemnet part, though they’ll never ask, unles s of course u r carrying 50 odd RAM modules at one go
Mobo, dunno, they might create trouble as it looks imposing eniff…
As long as
U have inncocous looking stuff, not very imposing
U r not carrying too many pieces of the same item
U don’t have the glossy packaging say a GPU may have cme in
They won’t bother u at all, Unless U r having a especially bad day…
To add to Superczar’s points, the duty free limit has been raised to 25,000 Rs now. You can get quite a few “spare parts” with that amount of money.
Nowadays, at least in Delhi, customs guys don’t even bother to ask you anything if you are carying resaonable amount of luggage. Unless you are coming from the Gulf or Singapore, you can just walk through the Green Channel. For Gulf/Singapore passengers, the customs guys get a bit edgy.
ya, theoretically it could…but so could a lot of other things that all of us do every now & then…d/l ing mp3s from torrents/IRC, driving after just 1 beer (even 1/2 qualifies as illegal), smoking in a public place (a road is also counted as a public place)…the list is endless…It’s just a question of how comfortable you feel when breaking some of these ridiculous (some not) laws…
And as I said, unless u r having a wretched day, it won’t…
ya i read on the customs site that you dont have to pay customs on goods worth rupees 25000.. plus .. every member is entitled to that rs 25000 excepmtion... except that you cant add up each members excemptions.. like say you bought a tv worth 30000... then youll have to pay customs on it… you can add your and your wife`s 25000 rs excemption and get it withotu paying customs.. ,.
i hope someone understood what i wrote. haha..
plus you can salso get a assembled comp duty free..
Say 2 ppl are travelling together and they have a single item worth 30,000. then u cannot club the 25k exemption u r entitled to, to 50,000 and get the stuff without paying duty. In such a case u’ll have to pay the duty for the excess amount. since its worth is 30,000, u’ll have to pay duty for 30,000 minus 25,000 = 5000 rupees only.
Also do let me know onething if i do find some relative or friend in US
and he got what i needed for me and its less than 25k and he couriers it to
me from there.
How will the Couriered product reach me hear in India
Courier->By Air comes here->now i am stuck here.
Will the product reach my home directly or will i have to approach the customs to get my courier. this is confusing me.
Any Courier service common in US and India which is reliable and doesnt charge high rates.
most of the times they will deliver the stuff to your house,
but if the customs are not sure of the intended use of the products they will send a letter asking you to come and submit a technical write up giving a description of the goods and its usage, proof of purchase etc.
then they will release the goods to your local post office where you can collect it or if know the postman well , get it delivered to your place.
things will go a bit smoother if you get someone to remove the box etc and send only the essentials and label it as gift or so but this isnt a sure thing.
lastly no matter what the value of the goods are nowadays they seem to ask for tax this has to be paid at the local post office or to the postman and not to the customs office. there (customs office) you may only have to grease a few palms to make things go faster
all of the above based on my experiences in chennai and it may vary from place to place.
