IBM wins the game console wars with their CPUs

I mentioned this elsewhere, but let me expand.

  1. XBOX 360 - powered by IBM PowerPC (and ATI gfx)
  2. PS3 - powered by STI (sony,toshiba,ibm) Cell processor containing a power core. (Nvidia gfx)
  3. Nintendo Revolution (powered by IBM + ATI) as mentioned here:

End result: IBM rakes in the moolah via their CPUs.

I am not talking about 1st 2nd and 3rd.
Just that IBM gets all three positions on the podium.
Personally, I believe this is the probable release order.

Yup IBM will be raking some moolah from the console wars since it is involved with every console for the CPU…

IBM will be earning but these are all OEM based CPU’s where the profit margin is lower, nowhere near the Retail margins..

Microsoft owns the chip not IBM. They only pay for the design but the rights are with them. Nevertherless they still must a have paid a tidy sum

we must remember that apple supported the ibm powerpc development :slight_smile: afterall, they moved over frm motorola to ibm :slight_smile: that gave IBM the motivation and the required resources to go ahead with the development of the architecutre :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

  1. The design is licensed, ie IBM make custom modifications as required.
  2. The chip is manufactured by IBM.

So IBM will be raking in the moolah. IBM will never sell the design to MS - that wud mean that MS cud go to say TSMC and manufacture PowerPCs to sell to Apple!
Undoubtedly, this particular design is licensed EXCLUSIVELY, so no one else can ask IBM to make it for them and sell Xbox Compatibles.

this kinda mkse it one sided, dosent it, no competition, so no real threats, do wahtever u like and throw at the consumers, lol…

No dude, they cant do that…since they are oem only meaning no direct sale to consumers. Also since they are providing the technology to companies who are competiting for the same product i dont think there will be place for any complacency :wink:
