I am in the market to install CCTV or IP cameras with DVR or NVR for home, learned that all CCTV products must have STQC certification from 9th April 2025. An YouTube video as well as local CCTV dealer said there is a shortage of CCTV related products in the market now. Products that are already in stock with the dealers can be purchased, but a shortage is expected for the next several months as most companies haven’t certified their products, and hence cannot sell them anymore. The dealer also said prices have increased because of this shortage, that an IP camera that cost 3800 earlier is now Rs. 4500 or so.
Are you holding off on CCTV purchases because of the STQC requirement?
This is extremely worrying news as I am in the process of closing a deal for 16 or more cctv cams for my residential building in Mumbai.
This are the choices we have made so far:
This is my CCTV setup [PROPOSED] for a Mumbai Residential building of 32 flats (ground + 3 floors) and having 2 wings.
Hikvision NVR DS-7616NXI-K1(B) with Seagate Skyhawk AI 8TB HDD;
All Hikvision 4MP IP cams used as follows :–
2 cams for entrance lobby DS-2CDD1347G2H-LIU;
6 cams of DS-2CD1343G2-LUF (one on each floor – inside staircase corridor to monitor 4 flats ) and
8 cams for outdoors DS-2CD1043GO-LUF (to monitor all 8 sides of our building which is C shaped)… *[may need more cams here] *
The PoE Switch is Hikvision DS-3E0510P (2 units of 8 ports each).
NVR Rack is CROTOMAC 6U with 4 power sockets.
D-Link CAT6 [450 mtrs]
May end up choosing a 32CH NVR & more cams
WHAT DO I DO… deal is ready to proceed, but I still need 8-10 days to do further research before closing the deal.
I didn’t read anything about this other than on this thread, but based on the quote below you have nothing to worry about since STQC is already required since 9/4/2025. So, you can research as much as you like before you buy.
While the STQC certification last date is 9th April 2025, there is an additional 21 day compliance period after which the non-certified products should be withdrawn. Its unclear whether the government will extend the deadline as of now.

BIS will suspend or cancel licenses of non-compliant manufacturers.
A fresh registration will be required to resume business.
Sales and supply of non-compliant CCTV products must be immediately halted.
Companies must withdraw such products from warehouses, distributors, markets, and transit inventories.
STQC Compliant Cameras
So far, the STQC certified cameras that I came across seem to be geared towards government and businesses, not for home use.
Honeywell has a launched a new 50 series camera that are STQC compliant (during June 2025, not clear when they will be available for purchase or how much they cost):
I have decided to go ahead with Hikvision for my home install. I do have concerns about the future, especially what will happen to app notifications if Hikvision decides to stop selling in India altogether.

I have decided to hold off on the CCTV purchase for 1 or 2 months. This is because I just found out that CP Plus STQC certified models have started appearing in markets.

If you are using the setup for personal use then it is your choice. You’d need to worry about the system meeting certain certification only if it was a regulatory requirement for your business.
