Sorry, but this is not true. You are underestimating what Salesforce does. It is almost impossible for a small team to give those features, with as high availability.
Also, to answer the original questions, I have a few friends who were SF devs. Then they eventually moved to Salesforce (with huge pays), and are now salesforce consultants. It can be a great career for short-mid term. In long term you might want to move to managerial positions anyways.
