Israel has has this ability for over a decade, perhaps longer. What it lacked was a green light from Washington which it seems to have got.
Why? To soften up the Iranians and make them more amenable to a deal that is acceptable to the concerned neighbours.

I feel India has played enough neutral cards and frankly am not sure it has helped India very much.
True but we don’t have any ambition to be global power anyways. We just want to keep trading with all and make money and go about on our own.
India only wants powerful enough to make sure nobody messes with it.( Sadly that is also not happening )
US has already sanctioned several Indian firms dealing with Iranian crude and Indian imports have fallen to less than $10m, though total imports are still around a $1 bn.
Not as much at stake compared to pre-Covid times but India will probably just keep doing word gymnastics and UN abstentions.

China’s trading relationship with USA may be more important to them than basket case countries like Iran. China can get oil and gas from other places too, for what’s worth. They will play Pak like a fiddle.
India as usual do bilateral trade and defense relations with anyone found comfortable, will not play together with anyone, my gain some and suffer some.
