I had cleaned this fan a few months ago by taking it apart and removing all the dust. It fixed my overheating issue but I think I might have somehow caused some other issue.
Right now the fan starts randomly making loud noise and it’s also not spinning at the normal speed when it’s doing this. If I tap the fan it goes back to spinning smoothly for a while. Feels like the fan is “coming out” and not getting seated properly.
Is there a way I could replace the fan? It’s one complete assembly including the heat spreader all the way to the CPU. So I think I might have to buy that whole part from MSI if the fan is not easily replaceable.
Well you could try taking fan apart again and screwing it lightly. Or even little bit of sewing machine oil in the middle when you’ve taken it apart.
Watch videos on lubricating laptop fan.
you should open the fan clean it and lubricate as said my @DentXXX ,sound look some wire touching fan internally .open and check wht the problem or it beeter to replace the fan since it a laptop ,or heatup and hang laptop
Clean the fan thoroughly, use air pressure in every small corner that you see.
Could be dust imbalance, because you cleaned it, if heavy dust buildup left somewhere might be causing uneven spin. Tapping the fan re-centers the shaft, until it drifts again.
Thanks @DentXXX , One drop of oil in the bearing seems to have fixed it for now. But I suspect it will come up again because the bearing has probably worn down which made it either too loose or off center. Probably because of running with all the dust earlier.
There seem to be no official part available for this so will have to ask MSI for an official repair and they always overcharge.
There is a small plastic washer on top of the fan blades connected to the centre shaft . That would have loosened and fallen off. Just try to find a washer to lock the fan blades in position
