Laptop for a 12 year old (Coding, rendering and AI tasks)

Hello All,
Looking for a windows laptop with a budget of 60K to 1L. Purpose is for my kid 12 years old to use for his coding classes and occasional gaming. Also would prefer decent GPU power for rendering/AI tasks.

Good build quality and good after sales service is preferred as with kids rough handling this becomes important.

Portability is also important as he carries around for classes, competitions, friends home etc

Dedicated GPU is nice to have but not a requirement. Budget and portability are priority

Looking for suggestions from members here.

Thanks

How about something like below ?
Laptop comes with 16GB DDR5 RAM, RTX 4060, 8 Core 16 Thread Ryzen 7 7435HS Processor and high refresh 1080p display.

Its a good option technically. But weight is 2.2Kg. As the kid needs to take it for classes and competitions portability will be an issue

Tbh, you won’t find anything light with a dedicated gpu in that range..

Ok, How about Ryzen integrated GPU models? Dedicated GPU is not a strict requirement

Yep, that would definitely increase your options

I have a ThinkPad t495 i bought refurb for 25k. Extremely rugged, Ryzen 7 and vega 11 graphics. Only issue is one of the ram is soldered. Personally would give that to my kid to lug around and handle rough usage

Not looking for pre-owned

Coding, AI, competitions? That’s one precocious 12-year-old you have there!

I don’t have recommendations but you should be able to get a decent new unit within budget but compromise on the dGPU/rendering part… likely an iGPU.

Have you done some browsing on your own for the main brands like Lenovo primarily, followed by HP, Dell, ASUS, Acer etc (in that order of my preference/suggestion)..

One of those new Ryzen-AI models which include an NPU unit?

Not saying pre-owned, just that Ryzen thinkbooks look business, mean business and are pretty rugged compared to consumer stuff. There should be options in the 60-80k range of new

You need a Dedicated GPU for AI. The integrated GPU can only take you so for.

Bought this for kid, 1.5 year ago and still happy, mainly for study mild gaming

Have you looked into Macbooks? Macbook Air M3 is just under 1 lakh on amazon with card discount.

Not on Amazon, but on Flipkart.

I personally feel that RTX 4060 is not really needed for this level Coding. And TUF gaming is pretty heavier in comparison to its peer gaming laptops. Are you still open to suggestions?
