Motorola has announced a long term partnership with the GrapheneOS Foundation to boost privacy and security on its smartphones, with future GrapheneOS support, ending the Google Pixel exclusivity for this Android OS.
I wish existing moto phones could support it as well
Genuinely great news, super ironic that GrapheneOS only supports hardware made by the same company they’re trying to rid themselves of.
Hopefully this means Motorola will be incorporating chip level security features like in Pixel phones.
That was primarily due to firmware openness
Another motorola user is uncertain what to expect in the name improvement with such a move… may be they will start supporting certain features of phone … like a phone… not a only internet enabled connection dependent internet handheld… ui currently is great btw … just some file organization with Google drive is headache … new os is available to old device like 2024 is a wait an see…
No way, modern Motorola actually becoming useful instead of pumping out phones that lose support in a year? Seems like I’m in a dream.
Didn’t we have a huge thread about how bad Motorola’s build quality has become? Pity… Otherwise this news would have been super tempting.
There are a lot of banking or 2FA apps that break in Graphene OS due to its sandbox. If it works the way it does on Pixel devices, then it cannot be a mainstream solution. It is better to just get a Pixel then.
Not sure what this will achieve as it will cause frustration for mainstream users unless there are some changes made for it to operate like an OEM OS.
ICICI mobile app seems not supporting Samsung Secure Folder by Knox now. And here Motorola is touting GrapheneOS, don’t know how it goes.
