My triumphs and trysts with VSOL V2802RH

I recently picked up a VSOL V2802RH from TE here . I was wanting one for 2 reasons , one Tp-link screwed me my removing PORT BINDING option from their firmware on XC220-G3v so no bridge now . Even if you add then it wont work . As such this was finicky as MAC cloning never worked on this . It shows connected , can ping google but no websites open . It is adeqately documented here and boradband forum
SO FLASH WARNING - DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR XC220-G3v the upgrade was only done to enforce TR609

I was able to get the XC220-G3v MAC added in ISP system so worked fine
My ISP Is timbl with EPON , MAC binding , VLAN and PPOPE dial

Second reason of buying was 2.5G port . My home local network will fully be 2.5G so lets say this was novelty with bridge mode working in JIO and Airtel for future .

I received yesterday but this VSOL V2802RH has a very finicky power requirement … banged my head , PMed the seller etc etc then @Ashtreks thread saved me Unable to ping my new VSOL V2802RH . You cant connect to it if power issues , static IP etc nothing works . So found a new power adapter which came with sounce usb to SATA adapter which many had purchased . As discussed here Amazon seller had sent JIO / Syrotech power adapter which worked properly .

Now the actual setup part on VSOL V2802RH
First i tried to setup PPOPE on this with MAC clone . Didnt work , then sought @anon65839647 help . He assisted me for 3+ hours on this yesterday so a big thanks to him
Tried everything MAC clone didnt work from GUI , then he changed MAC from telnet , Still didnt work , it got different MACs . In between i was also facing issue of this not connecting to PC , not able to ping even with static IP . So after 3 hours with same power adapter then different power adapter , multiple resets , 2 PCs and multiple cables i was able to conenct to this again . Immediately restored it original MAC on sticker and setup bridge mode . And my oh my it connected in bridge mode in first attempt

But as i didnt bridge both LAN ports , I cant access VSOL V2802RH GUI from PPOPE dial port . Need to conenct second port for checking or changing stuff . Therefore my second LAN port ( 1G) is not being used . Looking for solution to access VSOL V2802RH from bridged port
@reborn and @d5aqoep have listed youtube and commands required on my UCG Ultra which i need to do today - VSOL V2802RH, ISP Requirements and resources - #6 by kuduku

So my advice to any one trying out VSOL V2802RH

  1. Correct power supply is critcal .
  2. MAC cloning from GUI doesnt work
  3. MAC cloning from telent changed MAC but still didnt connect
  4. Bridge MODE works awesome

My wishlist or to DO
1 Make MAC clone work so I can have original ONU MAC and VLAN in VSOL V2802RH itself
2 Access VSOL V2802RH GUI in bridge and use both LAN ports to share internet

Cant give much feedback on VSOL V2802RH for now as used for 1 odd hour only but my pings reduced by 2ms .

Another peculiar thing i observed , I can dial on UCG Ultra using either WAN or LAN MAC of XC220-G3v in VSOL V2802RH , both works
As per MAC used my ISP routing changes to Agra or Faridabad which are both incorrect from begining
comments ?

A long post as i didnt find this MAC clone issue anywhere and bid thanks to @anon65839647 and @Dushie

Which port number of your UCG-Ultra have you connected your VSOL to? I mean tell the number of the port as printed on the back. You need the right command to access VSOL in bridge.

2.5G port . Thats Port 5

Second @kudku on this.

Updating the thread with my experience of setting up the [VSOL V2802RH]

Agree with @kuduku have not tried mac cloning yet. But the device is finicky.

It takes at least 20 to 30 seconds to show any kind of activity post its powered on.
My unit does not display power led immediately.

Also is a bit finicky on the power requirements in terms of adaptor too.

Spent over 3 hours yesterday in getting my unit to work with Jio Fiber.
So for any folks using this or planning to set this up keep a watch over Rx snstivity of - 27dBm
as its finicky in working near this range when compared to G3-V2.

Sharing this from experience . Testing how this device works currently as was finally able to set it up in bridge mode . Have not tried any of the options and settings till now.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

As per @Dushie and another user , i found Port Binding option in WAN > other option
So on latest Brazil firmware which is exact same as latest Indian frmware

@kuduku is th mac cloning feature working on VSOL ? Were u able to get the setup working with VSOL and ubiquity?

I am confused. You are claiming to do this on Ubiquiti but giving here screenshots from TP-Link UI. What is it actually?

Also what is your Router IP address and VSOL IP address? Both should be on different subnets

VSOL - MAC cloning did not work
Ubiquiti - PPOPE dial with MAC of original ONU which was Tp-link XC220-g3v

VSOL 192.168.1.1
Ubiquiti 10.10.20.1

SSH into your Ubiquiti gateway and pass these 2 commands.

ip addr add dev eth4 local 192.168.1.2/24
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth4 -d 192.168.1.0/24 -j SNAT --to 192.168.1.2

Then try accessing your ONU IP address 192.168.1.1 which is in bridge mode

This is a temporary thing. It breaks if you change any setting on Ubiquiti or reboot it. Then you got to pass these 2 commands again.

Everyone, sorry to digress but did anyone get the mac cloning feature to work on VSOL V2802RH ? Earlier I was able to get it work with JIO fiber connection with a VSOL ONT + router with mac cloning feature but I was wondering if we can get a VSOL mac cloning also working and use a router (without a mac cloning feature) get it working in Jio fiber connection without using JIO’s ONT router.

You cannot clone MAC on VSOL. There is simply no option in VSOL to do that. For Jio, you need to use your own router that is capable of Cloning MAC. As simple as that. BTW did my commands work in giving you access to VSOL in bridge?

Thanks, Not at home
Will update once back & action taken

But VSOL GUI has it
MAC clone feature , Its not working that’s all
Just click edit button of your bridge WAN , shows MAC Clone & Static IP settings

I think MAC clone is only shown if VSOL is in EPON mode.

Yes I am on EPON
But click edit on bottom right of your screenshot

Come on man. Are you trolling ?

My bad, EPON has an edit button here , will send pics
