Need help with Thailand Itinerary

Hi Guys,

Me and my friends have planned for Thailand trip this Christmas need help with some places to explore or any suggestion from previous travelers on below things.

  • On arrival visa except the TDAC form do we need to fill anything else?
  • Heard immigration takes like 1-3hrs to finish any chance we can skip it?
  • Do we need to carry 10k Thai Baht for sure as individuals or can we show that amount in bank as well?
  • What all docs are needed for immigration?
  • How is the shopping experience in Thailand? Any specific things we need to look out for ?

If there are any suggestions pls post them .

drones my friend.
But be aware…there is also some news of Indian customs banning the DJI drone and taking it aware…so risk is also there.

Shopping experience is good. But if you want to shop, you should go to langkawi. Thailand is pricey.

Be aware of ladyboys… Also i think visa/mastercard will work currency would convert i guess when u use atm? We have planned a trip on February, more to plan.

Carry zero forex card from AU would pay with it wherever card is accepted.

Thanks, but not interested in drones.

Mainly looking for sneakers or some small electronics items.

There are 2 lines for immigration/ VOA .. you can get into “premium” queue by paying 1,000 or 1,500 THB pp. (they don’t accept any other currency, even USD). So carry THB accordingly.

They have some banks that support something like QR scan to pay. Do check it out, it’s called DeepPocket(ig this is bankless). But also it’s better to keep some money with ya.

Can I join? Really want to go back to Thailand, but my friends are passionately committed to ruining plans… Yes, @saifbukhari, that means you.

Anyways, jokes aside,

TDAC is mandatory, but it’s not a visa, just an arrival card. You still need to comply with all other visa requirements, such as passport validity, return tickets, accommodation proof, and funds.
You may be asked to show proof of funds. They do this randomly, so ensure that you either have a 10k thb equivalent balance in a credit card or a forex card or in your account; you don’t need to have it in cash.
I’ve been to Thailand twice, I carried cash both times, and one of my friends was asked for proof of purchase. We just showed them the forex transaction slip we got from our forex company for converting INR to THB, and that was enough for us.
I’ve personally never been asked for proof of funds, in any country i’ve travelled to.
Proof of accommodation can be a “pay at a hotel” or “100% refundable”, heck, you can even book a hotel, print the booking details and cancel it, and you’d still be fine (don’t do this though)

As for shopping, everything depends on budget, as you have plently of options, from knockoff to 99% copies, but generally if you need close to original copies you can go to China Town market, there are both day and night markets in this area where people sell 99% copies of almost everything, but be sure to bargain like crazy, if you don’t know how to do it, you will be ripped off.

For normal shoes that are not copies, you can go to The Platinum Fashion Mall or any of the malls, and if you want street shopping go to Chatuchak market but only when you want to buy wholesale, as they don’t sell 1 pc, you would need atleast 3 in qty, but it is cheap and it is a huge market as well.

Don’t carry more than 7Kgs of clothes with you, infact if you can just travel with limited clothes you can buy stuff there easily, buy a trolley bag there as well, no known brands but local brands are good as well, i bought a full size trolley bag from there for just under 2K INR and it is still works exactly as it did when it was new 5 years ago.

Oh and no need to go to the premium queue to clear yourself, just use the regular line it is fine, don’t need to spend money where not necessary. The regular one has more stations than the premium ones, so it doesn’t take that long anyways.

I would vouch for trolley bags, the designs sold there are no were to be found in India and they are of very good quality too. You can get great discounts on luxury brand clothes too.

@aasimenator I’m up for weekend trip to Seoul if you’re game

I lived in Thailand on and off.

Depends what you wanna do Phuket, Koi Samui are now very touristy and expensive. Main Pattaya strip has become a dump.

If you want chill out beaches go to Ko Phangan or Phi Phi islands. Definitely recommend Chaing Mai, lots of temples, markets, nice restaurants and live music venues. If you stay north of the baht it’s cheaper. Highly recommend you go visit the Hill Tribes areas.

Avoid touristy areas, go to the back streets and you will find nice reasonably priced eating places which mostly the locals use. Menus might be just in Thai but they are incredibly friendly people and will guide you.

Can’t Google translate help if you upload a clear photo of the menu?

Yes, google translate can even live translate the text (and the menu) just by pointing the camera towards text. No need to click and upload the photo.

It helped me in Vietnam.

It also helped me in Russia.

Should have spoken to you earlier .. but thankfully in my case the money spent was well worth it

Yes I’d think so, it’s very advanced and so is Google Lens.

My S25 Ultra AI can decipher text from Images which you can then paste into Notepad.

But Thai’s are helpful by nature and most speak English well enough to communicate so they would normally advise the Falangs’s (foreigners ) what they should be ordering. Expats dont take any offence to being called a Falang they often use the term themselves in day to day conversation.

TDAC and immigration clearance is really very smooth. On our Phuket trip they only asked where we stayed and let us through. No cash etc checked.

Install Klook and buy an esim, cheaper than doing roaming on Jio/Airtel etc.

Install Grab (its their version of Zomato+Uber). Cabs are kinda expensive but getting food delivered isnt that bad.

Definitely carry cash. Most places didnt take card (even a lot of restaurants).
