I just got one of my friend’s dvd.when i play it in windows media player i do not get any audio.i also noticed that audio_ts folder is empty.
Does that mean that he has not copied the dvd properly or there is a problem with windows media player reading the .vob files
First of all the Audio_ts folder is always empty. And vobsub file .vob refers to the thing that which brings in the subtitles.
And regarding the problem, why dont u try playing in powerDVD or windvd?
maybe the sound device selected for playing dvd may be something else as default..check tat too..
@techmaster: Chk out the sound devices and all the sound related stuff in ur PC first. Also try running the dvd on a standalone dvd player or some other pc. Also have tried another dvd playback software ?
@grudge: These are .vob or video object files, nuthing to do with subs 
Try checking the file using the program GSpot and let us know what you find.

Package also contains other tools like SubResync which allows you to synchronize subtitles with your video file.
Hmm, i know abt it man, i asked abt this in the thread i started (that .ogm thing) and i was pretty sure that .vob is the file of vobsub which makes the subtitles to come…

There u go and afaik techmaster was referring to dvd’s and not Avi files
i installed mpeg-2 codec and i have got the sound back.But sound is only on divx player not on windows media player. i have not tried using a standalone DVD player.

If Vobsub is a DVD file then how come it plays subtitles when in .avi or .ogm (or anyother file). We will just make sure that the .srt file and the .avi/.ogm is in the same folder and this vobsub thing automatically plays the subtiles (provided u have it installed).
@techmaster: Is it a dvd u are talking abt or a dvdrip (for eg: a .avi or .ogm file).
I never said anything abt a vobsub file, i am talking abt a .vob or video object file which consists of the audio, video et all of a dvd. The vobsub is simply a program/plugin which is used to rip subtitles from a dvd when converting to a avi or other format. Even i use it 
Hmmm I would try uninstalling the codec pack you are using now and then reinstall it
I use ac3codec for AC3 decoding on dvd and most ac3 encoded divx files. Free and excellent tweaking options if u have a real 5.1 system.
