You’ve covered all the bases well. I just wish you had more DACS & Amps to compare with the uDAC, but I guess we all have our wallet constraints
Would have loved a comparison between the uDAC and the Essence ST/STX.
The Xonar DX is not really targeted towards HeadPhone usage or even Stereo usage, but rather towards movies (Multi-channel decoding & outputs).
The Essence is double the price of the uDAC, but in terms of its capability, it would have been a more apples-to-apples comparison, rather than the Xonar DX which inclines towards a apples-to-oranges comparison.
There really isn’t anything to see in the internals. If I take a snap , all that you get to see is the back side of both the boards sandwiched together.Will take one if I open it up again.
No idea. The uDAC to uDAC II upgrades wont be available anytime soon in India .There were some issues /discussion related to the same on head-fi .Need to check what is the latest update.
I have heard a STX and I think the uDAC wont be able to keep upto to its Sound quality. The STX would be lot better as well as double the price.
^ I’ve both STX and uDAC. When I tried in my speaker setup, STX outshined uDAC. My search for a decent DAC that could match STX continues

^ Maverick via USB sounds worse than uDAC. Via Coax and Optical, Maverick is better - Coax was connected to STX SPDIF and Optical to Marantz CD63SE CDP. But, it’s a very short comparison. Headphone out comparisons are likely to be the opposite. IIRC, I preferred D1 vs STX and uDAC. But, since that was a long time ago, that opinion is subject to change.
So Maverick D1 as a standalone USB DAC + headphone amp isn’t a very good option in your opinion ? Lets see how the A1 turns out to be..if I do a full audition , will post some impressions here.
^ I think yes. Even when I listened with Headphones, I only had the CDP back then connected via Optical to D1. I did not try it with my PC at all.
But, I’ve by and large used D1 in my speaker setup. From my experience, it’s stock opamp and tube were not good at all. I found it’s Chinese tube to be muddy and even the GE NOS did not impress me. Currently have a Raytheon and a WE. I’ve also opamp rolled to LT1364 and now to Audio-GD Sun HDAM. I have to make a new Top too since Audio-GD Sun HDAM does not fit into the case.

If you read the review page on Head-fi - http://www.head-fi.org/products/maverick-audio-tubemagic-d1/reviews, you’ll get exactly what I am talking about. I am not putting down D1. It’s great for it’s variety of inputs and output options + the aspect of opamp and tube rolling. But, I’m a stickler for details. I find it lacking in that department. I also find the USB Input to be worse than Coax / Optical for my speaker setup. TBH, I’ve not used Headphones with it for quite sometime now. But, from memory, I found it to be very powerful and good. D1 is at the end of the day, an entry level DAC with great many options not found in this price range. But purely as a DAC, it has not met my expectations
