nV Silencer, what is it ?

I recently noticed that in games such as Far Cry, the temp of my 6800 was going upto 65 degrees. Is this OK, what is the max temp this card can handle before I panic ?

Also what is nV silencer and how much does it cost… Can I fit it without removing the stock Gainward cooler ???

nV silencers are GPU HSF combos like what XP 90’s are to proccy’s… The nVSilencer which fits on a 6800 AGP version is NV 5 Rev 2… And you will have to remove your stock HSF…

Pricing ? Are they made by nVidia ? By how much can they reduce temps ?

No they are made by Artic cooling… Check out the prices on various websites… www.sidewindercomputers.com is one which ships to India… www.coolpc.com.au is another… And i havent tried one so i cant comment that by how much they will reduce the temps but they sure do… I think Gainward has some awsome stock cooling itself… Before you go in for one… Why dont you try removing your stock and add some AS5 on it and see if the temps drop… Also proper airflow is very necessary with a 6800 series card inside the canbby…

No they are made by artic cooling a swiss company. The temp reductions are generally between 10-20 c range.

***Blade has one on his 9800 Pro… He will adwise you better as he has hands on experience with the same…In the meantime mine is in transit… Ohhh! Yess!!!

Yeah I know the cooling system on the Gainward really is great, i was just inquiring actually there is nothing much to worry, I will be adding another 120mm fan soon so that should improve airflow. Thanx for the info Switch.

I read that :face_with_tongue:
so is mine

NV5 Silencer is available in India with Prime ABGB , not sure if they have it currently
in stock with them , also dont know which version of NV 5 Silencer works with
AGP version of 6800

Quady i posted it above its NV 5 rev 2… Works fine with AGP… Its the 6600 AGP series on which the NV dosent work…

For the 6600, there is the NV Silencer 6. And quaddy ---- it is NV Silencer 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc…
And for ATIs , it is ATI Silencer 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc…

@Quady

u seem to b missing alot of posts lately :face_with_tongue:

@Anish
Yup available at Prime ABGB…
They hav got all the NV to ATI silencers, except the VGA silencer rev 3(which in ur case, doesnt count)

BTW 65C r really really fine temps on load for ur gpu…seriously a BIG NO if ur gonna invest to just keep the card 5C more cooler investing 2.5K…But if ur gonna OC ur GPU or MEM …mite b useful :blush:

Just could not resist… This is on My 6600GT AGP… How bad is it…

@Switch

:rofl: r u trying to rub salt on Anish’s wounds hehehe

Those r fine for an 6600GT AGP :slight_smile:

I used to get temps around 75 but then i did the cable cleaning in the rig and applied an exaust for the Graphics card on the side panel and the nice air flow helped the temp drops…

Seems i am only day dreaming these days.
Sorry Switch , just posted the info without seeing any posts.

Heres the TT review, if its of any help. Rather old, though -

Hey guys, me really having no problems at all, so no question of Switch rubbing salt as there are no wounds ! My GPU is fine and has a fantastic Gainward cooler, but I just wanted to know what the nV Silencer is. I will also add another 80mm exhasut just below the GPU in the free PCI slots.

@rocky - 2.5k, is that the price ?

IS that 80mm fan below the gpu helping to lower temps

@Anish
Well i had asked long time ago whn i had my pro, for the VGA Silencer Rev3 nd had got those prices for the Nv silencer’s then…nd as Zhopudey has posted tht link, it says it was 2.5k then…so definately ALOT lower now :slight_smile:
@Quady
As an exhaust on the side panel it will surely help…he said he WILL add:)
but below it :confused: will really cuz probs (mite even increase temps)
