NVME SSD Overheating in Acer Nitro

Hi All,
I have an Acer Nitro i7 Laptop with 1 TB SSD came from Macufacturer , this is a Samsung MZVL2 SSD.
Currently it’s clocking over 60 degrees on Medium load and sometimes freezes.

I added WD Black 1 TB (SN 7100), and moved game load and heavy software to it. still i see Slot 1 showing high temperature. I missed opertunity to swap the SSD’s when I put it in.

Now I added thermal pads, still not much difference.
Any ideas to try here?

Do you have enough space to add in a ssd cooler(passive ones)?

When NVMe thermal throttles then it shouldn’t freeze & this drive thermal throttling temp should be higher than 60C. Check with an alternative windows install on 2nd ssd (WD SN7100) to see if this behaviour is repeated then too. Also, check in settings that your C drive is not bitlocker encrypted.

There is just small space for teat pad, and there is inbuilt metal strip on laptop case ( facing the ssd)
i missed to add, the WD Black SSD operates much lower temp around 40-50

No Bitlocker, i am trying to swap drives by cloning
was checking if other options available

the drive with higher temp , has 98% health

Preinstalled windows on branded laptops typically come with lots of bloatware which might cause some weird issues. Using alternative windows install (preferably pro/enterprise/education) will rule out windows OS as the cause if same behaviour happens there.

It’s new go to the service center and get it replaced for free

What are they making contact with ?

Yea its contacting, but not sure the quality of heatpad

Fyi Wd black series just like its predecessor runs hotter as its a performance series ssd and laptops are already too much congested inside for heat dissipation so the maths adds to the heat.

Would have to switch to a low power ssd.

If you have the option to select gen 3 in the bios use that. This will reduce the power usage and heat with barely noticeable difference in real life usage.
