An open-source project called wa-crypt-tools on GitHub allows users to decrypt and encrypt WhatsApp backups.

It supports .crypt12, .crypt14, and .crypt15 files from WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business, provided the user has the required key.

The tool helps access chat history, media, and metadata stored in encrypted backups, which are typically saved as SQLite databases or ZIP archives.
