Then you can guess the difference I saw between running World In Conflict at my Celeron 430’s default 1.8GHz vs it’s current 3.4GHz ![]()
At 1.8, it used to S–T–U–T–T–E–R, but it’s running smooth as silk now at 3.4!

cpu bottel necj oc you proccy to 2.7 Ghz wont see this issue
well even i think its the cpu bottleneck.. but u should definetly try a clean reinstall and the new drivers.. atleast this way u will clear any doubts bout the software part..
when i had my E6600 .. i tried playin it at max at 1680x1050 res.. the game gave around 30-45 FPS.. after i got my E8400, it jumped to 45-50 .. and sometimes more.. again tried it with a Q6600 and again the FPS dropped.. so as i experienced a faster CPU is definetly a plus… btw like others said.. see if u can find any software to OC ur CPU from the OS .. also if possible open up ur side panel and put a table fan next to it for proper air flow
..
neway goodluck dude.. and i really hope its just some driver conflict.. oh and dont forget to update ur game ![]()
OK. I just rescued you folks on Intel motherboards who can’t overclock your processor.
Apparently you can still overclock by a rudimentary pin mod
This is the popular BSEL mod for tricking the mobo into thinking that you are running a 1066 proccie or a 1333 fsb proccie ( if your mobo can run at those fsbs natively but you are limited by your BIOS)
If you need to learn the details, here is Intel’s
Quoting nd4spdbh2 @ xtremesystems.org

It is reversible (just remove the tape and conductive ink and you are back on stock)
Be careful as if you do this the wrong way you may damage your processor. I guess you don’t need to overvolt as if your motherboard has native support for 1066 and 1333 fsb processors (consult your mobo manual or vendor’s site), it will automatically adjust the voltage provided. (Else there are pin mods for those too
)
Ensure that you have a good hsf.
Too bad I am on AMD so I can’t test this.
I’d advice reading more about this on dedicated oc sites before you attempt this.
I knew the volt mod on procys since long but not advisable as the voltage will be unstable and you might end up frying your procy.
Also make sure that your SMPS is good enough to provide enough juice when the card is trying to max out.
OC’ing is out of question, like I mentioned before.Simply because I have no clue how to go about it, nor do I want to risk it.Anyone with any benchmarks on the games I mentioned above with higher CPU’s than mine? ![]()
@Kamlesh: Which game were you talking about? Assassin’s Creed? How could the FPS drop on a Q6600? ![]()
Could be because of the core clock.
BSEL mod is pretty simple…
Cover one pin with a tape and u are done…![]()
Minor OC in a jiffy…
Risky maybe…but u have to take risks to extract more from ur old h/w…
next option is to spend more and get more ![]()
The last option seems better, thank you.![]()
Although not at this point.I’ll be formatting the OS in a day or two.Let’s hope the fresh install just helps to add on a few FPS atleast. Thanks for all your efforts though.![]()
I’ve the same Processor running at stock on a Asus P5LD2VM-SE Motherboard. i too plan to upgrade to HD4850 or HD4870. Can you tell me how to OC mine as ya all know my Mobo and Proccy model now? ![]()
^^ Well since its a 945 mobo…u won’t have much options for OCing…infact u can’t OC on a 945…
So u are left with BSEL mod OC only…
Would changing the CPU help? Moreover, I’ve 7600GT as GPU and its performance was satisfactory in all the above mentioned games, on my system considering the fact that the max res. which I can and do play is 720P(LCD TV
).
Even my??? His proccy is better than yours ![]()
CPU bottlenecking but not enough to stutter ![]()
Suggest driver changeover…
Well I could suggest a mobo change to a P35… change to a Biostar p35 and OC
This is what i was gonna say.
Lemme tell u a fact
I used to play TDU on my X200 integrated gfx 800x600. No AA used to get 12 fps…
and With my 8800GT and old 2180 i used to get 22fps. @ 1024x768 2AA
So i dont think its the setup , its the game.
about AC , are u on the latest patches? i wld recommend Switching to the latest drivers.
^Woah! TDU getting 22Fps on an 8800GT.![]()
My 7900GT got better frames @1280x1024 with 2X AA than this, without HDR of course. As for AC, I didn’t bother updating to the latest patches till now. Will do it later when I perform a fresh install & get Catalyst 8.8 installed.
^ LOL thats CPU bottlneck, TDU, GRID and DiRT all r very CPU intensive games, I got 60+ w/ 8800GT and Conroe.
COD4 is another eg., Crysis scales well w/ low clocked CPUs inc AMD.
GriD wasn’t an issue. It stayed at 52 Fps all along & barely dropped.COD 4 ran like silk on Pamela Anderson’s body.TDU’s performance was very shocking to me.It’s been quite a while since it had released, so assumed the performance should have been much better. Can’t believe processors phase out so soon.![]()
try running 3dmark and post cpu and gpu score , that will give idea what is bottlenecking the performance .
That’s another problem.I tried running 3Dmark 03 but for some stupid reason it just locks up.It doesn’t proceed beyond the loading screen. ![]()
