) as of June 2024, including of their no logs policy (not familiar with the auditor so no idea if they’re reputable or not). And I can’t find any evidence of them having outright refused to do an audit - the main issue I see is that they didn’t keep their original promises for when it was supposed to be done, because (according to them) they’ve had a bunch of infrastructure changes over the last couple of years that held everything back. I will say that that lapse and the lack of transparency following it is concerning - there should have been an easily accessible page or an email detailing the reasons for any delays, rather than a bunch scattered Reddit comments and tweets.
I mean, it seems obvious why they would post those - many people immediately write off any VPN-based in those countries without actually evaluating whether there’s a realistic threat from such membership, as I was talking about before, and that’s a deterrent for potential clients. A business defending themselves against potential loss of business from what they perceive as misinformation is par for the course, I think. The main issue is whether the contents of said posts are valid, and prima facie it seems like most of it is, at least to me - I’d have to see a specific rebuttal to dismiss them based on this.
Also - being nitpicky here - two blog posts across four years doesn’t come across as “keep actively publishing” to me.
That might be the case - I don’t really use it for that so wouldn’t know. What I can say is that interestingly, their dedicated video streaming servers seem to be better at dodging VPN detection than the normal servers - I’ve had them work for sites that block access from VPNs, though not consistently. Probably just that the IP ranges hadn’t ended up on any blacklists at the time.
Yeah, honestly, if you can’t pay for a VPN like Mullvad then Proton’s a fairly decent free option. Not a ton of countries but handy if you need to access a website blocked here in a pinch. I haven’t found it all that slow either.
Don’t worry about “anonymity” as long as you are using any vpn which is well known enough & has been in the service for more than 4-5 years. True anonymity on internet is not possible anyway but as long as you are using vpn for “typical stuff” that “typical ppl” do then nobody cares.
P.S. if using vpn mainly for torrents then get seedbox instead especially if using pvt trackers.

Ah, ok, so I’ll look into seedboxes. Just been using vpn so far and it’s been ok, but will see if this is better way to go.
Free or paid?
For Free I used “Darkweb VPN” which is old but has a lot of servers but I don’t see this app on the playstore anymore. It used to be very quick to connect and very efficient. No limitation. Now it’s started getting buggy.
I haven’t found a good free VPN to replace it. Occasionally using TurboVPN and Proton when they don’t fail to connect. My experience with Proton is the free version is too much trouble and not worth the headache. It’s overrated imo. I have used and uninstalled other VPNs too.
The kind of VPN which I want is one that lets me connect to international server or websites without any issue. I want to watch shows on peacock for example.
Checkout /r/seedboxes before deciding anything & fyi ultra.cc most likely has best speeds for Indian users (speed as in download/upload from their server to your home pc) but HBD & seedhost.eu & feralhosting are also good (speed will depend on your ISP though).
I got my AirVPN subscription on a three year plan during a sale, so it was OK. They support port forwarding for 20 ports (might have changed after mullvad stopped allowing that). Decent speeds. They often use the cheapest backbones in certain locations like Asia, so, routing can sometimes be poor, if your ISP is also cheaping out. Can recommend. Don’t know about the streaming servers since I never use those.
