All the old unlimited validity cricket 4g data packs have been removed. Now only 28/30 days validity pricy data vouchers. No 25/50/100GB packs. Jio network & quality has regressed after the marriage.
Yes, my postpaid plan also got switched from 199 to 299. The message said UL 5G will not work, however post plan change, I do see the UL 5G addon listed in the Jio app. It might get removed in a couple of months maybe.
Yes for me it is showing 5G Data Unlimited under Add-ons as well. though i dont use even monthly 25GB.

Coming back to the problem at hand, we need to force all telecos to offer more diverse plans. Exactly what BSNL is doing.
The ideal scenario is bringing back the talktime thing that can coexist with the data + ul talktime + SMS plans. People shouldn’t be forced to dish out money for services that are not going to fully utilize. People who talk for hours can opt for the unlimited plan and those who don’t can utilize validity + talktime packs.
But that’s probably me being delusional considering the nature of business. The alternate scenario is:
Telecos like Jio can have a basic 1200 rupee (at max) annual plan for users who can’t/don’t wish to dish out 4K annually. Offer 12 GB data and 30 hours of free talktime (P.A.) in that maybe. There are data vouchers in case people need more. The current 1900 rupee plan for 24 GB data makes no sense. Then again, it leaves 29-30 days on the table which ultimately add up to 2063 rupees per year. Paying over 2000 rupees for 25 GB of data and calls is too much. That free SMS thing is 99.99% unused in most cases.
If there are four members in a family, this adds up to 8252 Rupees per year for four users assuming they all pay for the cheapest plan. Assuming they all pay 1200 each, the sum total would be 4800 INR per annum. This leaves 3,452 rupees surplus which can be used to pay for the JioFiber 30 Mbps plan which costs around 5000 for a year.
The annual price for Jio (and other telecos) plans is going up once again in 2-3 years max and most likely by 600 INR or maybe more.
That is ideal world scenario not real world scenario where telcos spend billions on getting spectrum license & setting up infra to utilize that bought spectrum. Kind of like how airtel/jio/bsnl all have FUP of around 3.3TB but one can’t say that give me plan for half of the existing price with 1TB fup as I don’t consume that much data anyway.
That’s all good man but what if someone doesn’t need 5G? What if one is fine with 4G and a bit of calling? Why must everybody bear the burden of a company’s investment?
thats how shit works, companies gotta recover costs and unless another player enters the market with low prices, they aint gonna reduce prices at all. What TRAI instead needs to regulate is to make sure they cant just turn off numbers, and that emergency calling and incoming messages should not be blocked despite no recharge.
Somebody please make this happen. Even this much helps a great deal.
I think emergency calling works as long as sim is active even with no recharge. As for incoming on non-recharged numbers, that’s not financially sustainable in the long term as per telcos beyond the typical 7 days they give.

ah yeah bad choice of words, emergency meaning we can call to anyone and atleast give a miss call to the person in question (we used to do this in older days when we used to have minimal recharge and needed to call dad),
incoming calls used to be there before 2014, there’s only IUC charges which telcos can negotiate between themselves
It’s a “flexible” way of saying that jio may give you free 7 days incoming or 90 days incoming depending on their mood/finances & giving a hope to those who think they might get lucky with jio as airtel/voda have a well defined 7 days free incoming after last recharge expires.
Exactly why it was stopped because having sims that don’t recharge but still remain active for receiving incoming calls/make outgoing miss calls use telcos infra while contributing zero revenue.
