The reputation system on any forum can let you differentiate between members to some extent. The higher the reputation points/status the more helpful/resourceful/impressive the member might be (not always the case).
We too have the reputation points (or reps) system on our forums which can and should be used to give reputation points to the user if you find his post helpful. This would not only encourage the user to maintain his level of enthusiasm but also distinguish him from others.
Where is Reputation Points status displayed: It is the green pips which show below your avatar. You will notice that they are more for some users than others. Also when you move your mouse over them they display a text line which is the status level of that user’s reputation. For ex. ‘user is mysterious’ or ‘user is highly notable’.
How to give Reputation Points: When you click on this icon…

… a window pops up.

Here you can enter a comment if you wish and click on ‘add to reputation’ to give reputation points to a user, also known as rep-ing a user.
How to earn Reputation Points: You can earn reputation points by posting/starting a really informative thread. Replying to a question in a satisfactory manner with proper information. Creating something extraordinary or suggesting something really helpful. There are lots of ways to earn points. Also when someone asks a question, instead of telling him to go google his query and then post (which is very rude) you can give him a structured reply. It does not matter whether you yourself searched for that answer or knew it beforehand.
What are the various levels of Reputation Points on TechEnclave: The image attached at the end of this post has the various levels in place and the reputation points required to make it to the next level.
Consider this practice of giving reputation points to a useful post your responsibility towards the community and its users and a means of encouraging the members who work hard to make this community a helpful/resourceful place. Let this be your way of saying ‘thank you’ to them.
However use your judgment in giving off reputation points and try not to misuse this wonderful tool.
