Situation of PWA on Android

Hey, I’m new to the forum and mostly use it on my phone. Using the site in the browser isn’t really what I’m used to, so I tried finding an alternative. I couldn’t find a Techenclave app on the Play Store and didn’t like Tapatalk when I tried it. Since Discourse lets you install the site as a PWA, I decided to give that a shot. After installing it, the icon showed up on my home screen. But when I opened the app drawer to launch the app, I was surprised to see it wasn’t there. I think it saved the site as a home screen shortcut instead. I tried the same thing over and over, but still no app in the app drawer. I even checked the installed apps section, and it wasn’t listed there either, only the home screen shortcut was present. I use Brave, so I tried a few other browsers too, like Firefox and Puffin, but got the same result. Finally, I tried Chrome, and to my surprise, it installed as an app, and I saw it in the installed apps list. So, is there a way to install PWAs using browsers other than Chrome on Android? Is this an Android-specific issue, or does the same thing happen on iOS? If anyone has tried it, I’d love to hear about your experience. I’m not super tech-savvy, so maybe I’m just missing something.

I have this app installed from discourse and I am using it. No probs.

Do you use chrome? Can’t seem to get it working it other browsers other than chrome.

It’s more of an asking for help or advice post.

Not to worry, this section is for Feedback about the site as well.

So what is the best way to use in Android app?

Sorry, man was having a headache so didn’t look through it before replying. My apologies.

Yes I use chrome.

I guess just use Chrome. I have not tried Chromite though maybe that could work.

Edit: Chromite also doesn’t work.

App you mentioned for discourse , it redirects to chrome though is it how it works ?

This could help.

I have tried other websites which supports PWA like Starbucks and Olx they also don’t install by other browsers except Chrome. This is not a tech enclave problem but an Android problem.

I have heard Samsung internet works other than Chrome can anybody test it.

Did a little digging and found this.

Tweet by Brave’s senior staff engineer.

Same goes for other browsers more info below.

PWA apps works for me in Vanadium. I use mostly ecommerce websites and ofc TE.

Do you use graphene os?

Yes. Using grapheneos.

Vanadium is stock browser in graphene os as a replacement of chrome and not available on other devices maybe that’s why it works. I have tried bromite closest browser I can find to vanadium it also doesn’t work. Only samsung internet works because they sign web apks from Samsung store as mentioned in link in my previous post.

Can you try Brave or any other browser as well and share your results.
