Suggest a lightweight but functional laptop backpack (under 3K)

I have mentioned on this forum before that I have an Everki Brand backpack which I got like 8 years back and it is still in stellar Conditon. This is my daily office backpack which I also would take on vacations for international and domestic trips.

The thing is, this backpack has like lots of pockets, I would say more than what I need and due to its design where we can halve the bag between laptop and non laptop slots, it is more bulkier and backpack itself without anything is heavy at 1.7 Kg.

I am looking to buy a backpack to use daily and also for trips which can accommodate a 14-15 inch laptop (when I need to take for office or office trips) and have basic functional slots. No charging thing etc is needed (if it is there, it’s ok too, not a requirement though).

I would like to keep budget below 3k and even less. I have seen brands like Bange and American tourister online. Not sure of quality.

  • Zipper quality needs to be good and should have double zipper.
  • A small slot on top or top front would be awesome as I am used to such a slot in my current bag.
  • No need of separate chained slot for laptop is needed. It is ok to be with main slot with a place in behind with laptop compartment and that fastening thing.
  • Bottle holder on both sides preferred. Something that can hold even 1 liter bisleri bottles. I know some bags have this very small and not much expanding bottle holders which only accommodate 500ml bottle. Not desirable.

I am unsure if my ask if too much considering the small budget I have. If people can suggest based on their experience or so, it would be great.

I have been using this for last 2years for all my trips but havent used it day to day as I dont have to travel for office. This ticks all the requirements but its priced at 3600 right now. I bought it at 2900 though

There is a 23litre version of same backpack and I guess that will be better for you

Are you still in Malaysia? Do visit Osprey @ Midvalley Megamall. You might find what you need.

Back now. So not there. I hope I do go again. Not sure though. Anyways would not have been able to mall you told as I did not go to KL and instead was in southern city of Johor Bahru.

I saw some reviews of the Decathlon Quechua escape 500 23L and feel that can be great as “personal item” for airlines and also for daily office bag. Seems very practical in terms of slots and eveything. I saw like 10+ videos.

Still open to options but whenever I get opportunity to go to decathlon, I plan to carry my laptop and all my regular stuff to see how well it fits inside the 23L one.

Although 32L would be good but for the purpose I am looking for, 23L seems better as my current bag is 32L already.

Tbh, its the best backpack I have every used. Before this I was using Safari Seek. That had two problems, no space for water bottles and too large as addon backpack (45l). 32l for me has been perfect size, not too small and not too large.

The only shortcoming this backpack has is missing inbuilt raincover.

The American pressure backpack is already in my wish list on Amazon. I had seen it even at 999 rupees and am considering that too.

+1 to the decathlon 32L backpack, been using it since 3 years and it’s still as good as new, one of the best investments I made

If I want something to carry daily to office with following things…

  • 14 Inch Dell Latitude Laptop
  • Oval type Headphone Case that I use to carry neckband earphones, 65W USB Charger, USB C 2M cable, couple other shorter cables.
  • Water bottle (not always) - it is the Decathlon Rs. 99 wala bottle.
  • Mouse pad
  • notebook + pen
  • Small foldable backpack - * similar to this
  • Wallet and Keys, Office Id card
  • Few small random things

And then when not using for office but using as “personal item” in airline (separate from the main cabin bag) stuffed not like to the brim but at least utilize the most.

Should I get the 32L or 23L?

I may have to possibly see in store myself but as someone who is using, what is your opinion?

The backpack definitely looks great in terms of features and Decathlon says 10 Years warranty which sounds too good to be true honestly. But feature wise it is definitely stellar. Loved the bottle holder part which makes the bottle invisible.

23l litres would be more than enough for you. If you are planning to use it daily for office commute then you will need to buy a raincover too.

So i stumbled upon some reddit posts which say that Decathlon has upgraded (actually downgraded) this bag about an year back and they have removed several features. Reconsidering now.

I would say visit the store and see for yourself. If you are satisfied with the features and quality then get it or else chuck it.

Visited Decathlon just now and surprisingly, found the old (and better version) in 23L. Only grey color was available in old version, the beige was in new version with features removed.

The 32L too were all new versions. Surprisingly the manufacturing date shows December 2025.

For anyone curious, this is the Decathlon in Malad west in Mumbai, just opposite to Malad West metro station.

Here is the pic and also comparison with the beige one which is the new downgraded version. The wire pass thru is the immediate giveaway that grey is old version.

SwissGear laptop bags are excellent quality . using same bag since 10 years still strong.

Zips are still holding.

some Decathlon bags zips feel low quality to me…but that maybe just my own experience.

I have couple of lenovo backpacks and they are very good quality with good chains. See if you can find something you like. You can go to a local laptop store and ask them if they have one for sale. These laptop brand backpacks are much better than their price tag would suggest.

Something like:

The MRP of this grey one is also higher than the beige one. I guess they have launched newer cheaper models with less list price and continued selling one of the old models too.

+1 on Lenovo.
I also have Lenovo backpack and it is very decent quality for price .

But if want something really tough inside out…I say go for swissgear. bigger investment but sahi hai for long term usage.

I have used Swiss gear before and yes their quality is also topnotch.

No. Price is all same. ₹2599 irrespective of color for 23L.

Also it was probably luck that I got old model but then I am puzzled why manufacturing data is of this month itself while there are reddit posts telling old version is discontinued almost a year back.

I am speaking of MRP, the beige one has the MRP of 3250, the grey one is of 5000

I found it on the website too:
