Sweeney believes G70 beats R520

TIM SWEENEY, founder of Epic Games, maker of the Unreal and Unreal Tournament games confessed that he believes that G70 Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX is actually going to end up better than ATI’s upcoming R520.

Sweeney is one of the key leader chaps who is also creator of our mysterious game that we heard about at E3 and mentioned here.

We know now it’s named Gears of War and its Xbox 360 title, the game that will ironically run on ATI’s R500 chip only.

In a video interview, a chap asked Tim “I have to ask you: R520 or G70?”

Tim smiled and said, “Oh, G70 for sure.” You can download his video confession here

I have to advise you to be careful about your thoughts, as Tim and Epic are in bed with Nvidia with it’s “TWIMTBP” (The way its mean to be played) marketing program. Epic also happened to be was showing its Unreal 3 engine at Nvidia’s booth.

I am not suggesting he is not telling the truth just that things can be different, you never know. Life taught us to be sceptical, us Bosnians and Scottish people.

I guess we will learn the truth in just a few weeks as Nvidia plans to introduce its chip soon. µ

Yup he gave Nv fans what they wanted to hear…but its far from the truth ;). I’d rather wait for the official head to head benchies than take from some1 like sweeney ! :wink:

LOL That will make Undertaker jump in joy for sure. In any case lets wait for the benchies and buy the better card…
Epic being an NV fan or not, one things there whichever card performs well on the U3 engine is gonna win as 12 titles are aldready licensed to use the engine.

I wouldn’t doubt his credibility.

twimtbp is just a pr front, both ati and nvidia work equally closely with game developers.

For the records Sweeney also said FX 5800 was better then 9700.

I will wait till both cards are released and we see some bencies. Too early to tell otherwise.

Well even after the benches you cannot make up your mind… Example 6800Gt vs X800 XL keeping the overclockabilty factor in mind…

But at least we can get a better idea instead of just listening to people who have been proved wroing before and arguing without ANY known facts.

Actually he was one of the first few people to discover nvidia was using low precision methods with their fx line.

Yup thats right, never doubted him on that front. Its actually making such baseless statements that would make him lose credibility. I doubt he is giving us a unbiased opinion. Its just the money that makes ppl come out with such statement… :wink:
