Got a new laptop as I wanted a premium windows/linux portable that ticks most boxes when compared to a macbook (I use one provided by office).
Enter Thinkpad X9-15 Gen 1
- Full metal chassis
- 2.8k 16:10 120hz OLED with refresh rate switching
- Opens with one hand
- Really good keyboard deck with backlight
- Both face unlock and fingerprint are supported (windows hello)
- 4k capable 8MP camera
- Massive 80wh battery
- Haptic trackpad with glass surface and precision drivers
- Intel lunar lake 228v with 32GB DDR5 (memory on package, non upgradable)
- Awesome 4 speaker setup that sounds almost as good as my MBP 16”, certainly the best I’ve heard in any non mac laptop.
- Wifi 7 capable with Intel chipset
Lunar lake is frankly amazing, single core perf between m2 and m3, efficiency hovering around snapdragon x processors. With active usage, browsing web, playing youtube on speakers, this lasts ~14 hours on a full charge, and ~10 hours with moderate usage, like running 2 development servers, vscode, postman, browser etc. + constant code compilation/reload. During light usage, cpu package power sits at < 1w, and battery drain is < 4w. Wake from connected standby is instant and logs in immediately using face unlock.
People on the ThinkPad sub are outraged that this doesn’t have the trackpoint nub thingy, but honestly I couldn’t care less, never used it and don’t see the point when you have a trackpad that’s as good as this one, but opinions might differ in that.
