The trash build quality of a "Gaming Laptop" - Moving to a MacBook

Can agree…I also used to use macbook [it was a mid 2012 macbook ] but it got issues with screen so wanted to buy a new macbook, but it was like 1.3l just for 16GB RAM at that time so went with an acer laptop and the difference was day and night in build quality the os and everything [I didn’t know that I had to apply a bit of pressure for the charging pin to go in for a few months :joy: because in mac it was magnetic]

and when u get habitual with metal body u can’t go back to plastic body, it just feels weird like how can they build so much cheap body for a 15.6 inch laptop lmao

from then on I started using it with external monitor because the laptop didn’t have a very nice display nor did the battery last more that 3-4 hrs…so its kinda PC now?

I started hating windows so much that I shifted to EndeavourOS this Jan with GNOME and my life has been much better since then, finally I plunged into omarchy recently and am liking it, it comes with many things stitched together and it just feels snappier for me.

I can say that if you don’t game [or use adobe software everyday] linux is way better than windows [there has been huge update in proton as well increase the amount of games one can play on linux] but for what I do [coding/development] I never had any issues

yeah thinkpads are great laptop imo and with linux its just :pinched_fingers:

How well does linux run on macs btw, its it possible natively without Apple software running at all ? How is driver support ?

there is one named asahi linux for the m series chips but I dunno if you should trust it for prod? maybe try dual booting first and then transition to it?

this is just a recommendation because I have never tried that

Was just curious, not moving. Too much testing effort to move from x86/linux for me.

So i guess its not locked down as i thought it might be. Only drivers could be an issue.
