Tooth implant experiences and cost

Recently visited dentist and he said that my tooth decay on one of the tooth is very high and he recommended tooth implant instead of root canal.

What is the ongoing rate of tooth implant in bengaluru/chennai/hyderabad region ?

Is tooth implant a good option ? i got afraid seeing nults and bold inside the tooth - i was about to ask him to plan for root canal instead of this.

Any personal experiences from people who have done tooth implant (this tooth is the first to the last in my right side of teeth) ?

In Private hospitals single tooth implant can cost upto 35k.

In Govt it will be around 20k overall, last I heard.

These prices are in Chandigarh.

It’s the best option currently. Can also last a life time with regular check up and maintainance.

It’s usually around 20min process to get the inital implant done. Once it settles, might take 1-2 month, after that they get the rest of the stuff done.

Root canal is cheap and less invasive and should be preferred in my opinion (i have around 5 to 6 root canal procedures done on my teeth). Implants are invasive. Go to another experienced dentist for 2nd opinion and ask him if root canal is possible. Prefer manual root canal procedure instead of the automated machine ones. Had a bad experience with machine root canal. Only advantage of Machine root canal is it is finished in 1 or 2 sittings. Manual root canal takes 3 sittings.

Rates :

Root canal procedure - 2.5k to 3k

Crown - metal - 2.5k

Crown - (Metal + ceramic) - 3.5k

Crown - Ceramic - 8k

Implants per teeth - 17k onwards

I have done 3 Rcs and one of the Rcs got accidentally screwed up by my dentist as a tiny decayed portion got left deep inside somehow leading to a sudden shooting pain in the rc region after a year. A quick x-ray revealed that the decaying is happening deep and is spreading maturely.

I then had to visit a pro dental surgeon who first had to remove the existing crown/cap which is a painful procedure with many bruises and post swelling in the surrounding area. Got the decaying thing cleared and he said that the tooth is at a stage that the tooth has lost its strength as we had to drilli in deep to clear the decaying dirt and if the Rc breaks for some reason, it will be a complete mess and I have to undergo an implant.

The only way out was to do a combined RC with the help of the adjoining tooth in a bridge mode like putting pillar, and laser burning surrounding gums to accommodate the big rc/cap and seal both the tooth as one etc.

Now, all this procedure lasted 5 sittings 2 months with each sitting lasting an hour.

Now, why I told my story?

Because if an RC goes bad for some reason your are F**d up badly as the reversal procedure is too painful and if the tooth has lost its strength then the only way out is implant or some complex jugaad to avoid implants. The surgeon needs to be extremely skilled.

All this procedure costed me a good 23k but my RC/cap has a 10yr warranty which again can be extended for as many years I wish to. The installed RC cap is some industry grade top-notch available in India on this date.

I had to undergo a few Rcs but I really do not have the courage now as the last exp. haunts me.

How regular?

Root canals have an inherent risk of getting the insides infected anytime in the future. It is basically having the dead tooth still in the mouth… the nerves and blood vessels cut off to remove the infection.

It is ok if the decay is not much, most part of the tooth is intact and root canal is done properly. Then one can take proper care of dental habits and diet (like less carbs/sugar).

But if the decay is extensive then better to go for implant. People worry about vibrations to the jaw bone while doing the implant but chewing hard foods/jaw exerciser can strengthen the jaw bone. Not a big deal IMO.

Disclaimer: Not a dentist and this is not dental advise :grimacing:

I did my root canal . Paid 6k plus 1.5k medicines.

It took 5 sittings.

It has been almost a year now . I am fine.

Post your xray if you have, will let you know that is there a chance that it can be saved or not.

Edit - Dental procedure cost varies from dentist to dentist and depend upon their expertise. I charge 35k for implants, 5k for Root canals and crowns start from 6k in my clinic.

Always ask for the company of implants before you get them done

I have 2 root canals and 2 cap placements of which 1 cap came off and the older one is still intact.

My father has 4 root canals and 4 teeth replacements.

My uncle has 1 root canal and my mother has 11 teeth replacements.

My grand mother has all her teeth replacement.

All others family members are still strong.

I don’t chew also hard items but still I went for 2 root canals until now.

Everyone needs to understand that one needs a oral health checkup atleast once in a year.

Root Canals, Implants, Fillings, Dentures or other completed procedures require a follow-up atleast once in two years.

At Manipal hospital blr, last year it started from 10k and went till 96k per teeth.

Not sure, but there are certain types of implants, titanium and non-titanium. once must look up for their pros and cons before going for implant.

Another dentist here. Please do understand that there is no “one size fits all” treatment plan. Choice of material, procedure/type of treatment, etc. depends on a lot of factors. Cost of implant or root canal also varies accordingly. Also, root canals are safe procedures. But they must be complemented with a crown. Otherwise the tooth becomes very brittle and prone to fracture.

Sure..np………

it is not about being strong, root canals if infected will not cause pain for a long time as there are no nerves. so this can cause hidden chronic inflammation. so it is better to be proactive.

chewing hard items is actually healthy for the jaw bone strength. only high carb/sugar diet is bad for the dental health. one can also try xylitol pulling for better oral health.
