TV speakers - DIY audio board help

I just got 2 pairs of tv speakers from a member giveaway. Both pairs are different and 10w 6 ohm each speaker. Also have 2 12v 4a adaptors with odd barrel size.

I have taken the pic from the listing. Number 1 and 2. They come with their own enclosure.

Was thinking in making them into active speakers using some board. Don’t know how to solder but this will be a good way to learn some basic skills.

Make them into 2 individual sets using the TPA3110 board.

What if I want to use all 4 speakers together (mono or stereo) Is that possible? Does it make sense to use different speakers?

something like this

Homemade 42W MINI Bluetooth Speaker From LG TV Speaker Assembly

What amp board and how would I wire the speakers? Will I need a higher spec adaptor?

Will look into bluetooth and battery backup after I’m succesfull with basic.

This is purely for fun and learn. No specific use case.

Will post my pics later.

That is probably the right way to go.

But a better board maybe this one.

But if you just want to start out you could also use this one. Not powerful, but It includes the volume knob.

But this needs only 5V power, NOT 12V.

Great choices. The blue board was my first pick. Reviews are bad with a lot of low quality fakes in the market. With the other board I can atleast see the chip, will add a heatsink if needed. Don’t want to be disappointed, thrown off because of a faulty/fake chip. This whole thing will get nipped in the bud. Most boards are 12v to 24v and will work best with 24v. Don’t have any equipment and honestly the knowledge.

The other board you mentioned would be my beginner choice for 5v. Already have 12v adaptor and want to make use of it. 12v 2.5a should suffice for the 12v boards.

I forgot I will need line in as well. Have not decided rca/3.5mm and male/female. Will most like cut an old 3.5mm cable. The speakers are bare wires without any connector.

Theres another complete board with knob and bluetooth 4.2 but will take the fun/learning out of it. Will mostly buy from below site. No prior experience.

Buy Digital Audio Power Amplifier Board for usb Speaker Bluetooth 4.2

Had bigger aspirations, LOL, so thought will do some jugaad. Any advice on the 4-speaker combo? At first I thought to buy a more powerful board and connect all 4 directly (mono) or 2+2 but that would be a novice mistake. Have to workout ohms, series-parallel, got a bit complicated so opened this thread. Want to keep it in 12v 4a for now. If it’s not possible or I’m not capable, will make 2 stereo sets with different boards but priority is 4 speakers combo.

I don’t have any budget in mind but I did buy a like new govo 300 speaker for 650rs from the classifieds recently.

GOVO GoSurround 300 | 25W Bluetooth Sound bar, 2000 mAh Battery, 2.0 Channel with 52mm Drivers, Multicolor LED Lights with TWS, AUX, Bluetooth and USB (Platinum Black) Price: Buy GOVO GoSurround 300 | 25W Bluetooth Sound bar, 2000 mAh Battery, 2.0 Channel with 52mm Drivers, Multicolor LED Lights with TWS, AUX, Bluetooth and USB (Platinum Black) Online in India -Amazon.in

Already using samsung tv 10w 6 ohm pair stock connector with an external screen board. The board came with built in amp and same connector, plug and play. Will use this and the govo to compare in the end. I have some more to add but will get confusing on this thread.

You can split your 3.5mm signal to each pair. Using something similar to this.

Connecting two speakers to one channel left or right channel of the amp, lowers the overall Ohms.

So if the amp is designed to drive load of 8ohms in one channel, if you put two speakers of 8ohms in parallel in one channel, they effectively become 4ohm load.

Connecting 4ohm load to 8ohm driver will pull more current than the amp is designed for at higher volume.

My audio knowledge is limited. Tagging the audio expert @cranky

I don’t want to use 2 power adaptors. If it’s not possible to run all 4 satisfactorily with one 12v 4a adaptor, will have to stop here with the 4 combo.

Theres another board I’m interested in

What would be the best board specifically for 10w +10w 6 ohm with 12v power?

There are so many choices. I have been researching this for some time without any real knowledge to decide.

Want to order ASAP.

Your single one can power both

I didn’t read the rest, will take a look when I get back home.

There is not going to be massive difference between these modules. Mostly all of them will work with 12V.

12V is very common.

These new once you posted have screw terminals on them, if you goal was to solder stuff, you won’t be able do that in these.

I’m a little lost so I can’t respond coherently, but if you want to power 2 speakers per channel, it should be quite easy to do. Most Class D amplifiers will handle 2 ohm loads with no issues so even if the drivers are 4 ohms each it will not be a problem. At 6 ohms, no issue for TPA3118 onwards.

If you do want separate amplifiers running off a single source, yes, you could use a Y-splitter. Soldering the small Class D boards is meant for the Chinese - dainty fingers and a sharp eye. The holes are usually very small and can only take very thin wire, which means the insulation is thin and melts easily. You sould use the ones with the blocks and screw in the wires.

My experience is that all Class D amplifier PCBs available in India are 100% fake. They use local Chinese made chips instead of the real ones and since no sellers are taking off the heatsinks to check, you will surely get a fake. No Indian brand is making this kind of product as far as I know.

Since you want to use 4 speakers use 2 speakers per channel in series. You will need a 12 to 18v and at least 5 amps power supply for TPA3118.

You can also use 2 boards and for the front use straight polarity and for the rear use inverted polarity for 4 corner room placement and surround effect

You are right, I missed that.

You also gave a suggestion to split the power. I didn’t think of that. This would be the easiest route for the 2+2 combo stereo. No ohm calc and wiring issue for the speaker. Put each pair on its own board. All 4 speakers are 10w 6 ohm each.

The adaptor 12v 4a is from a tata sky hd pvr and has a completely different barrel from what I have commonly seen. No other use. Have 2.

I have been scanning electronicspices.com and put a bunch in my cart.

  1. 2 nos PAM8610 board 10w+10w 8 ohm @ 12v
  2. DC jack male (barrel 5.5 2.1) with wires
  3. DC jack female with 4 wires (splitter)
  4. Halfway rocker button (inline power switch)
  5. 3.5mm male to 2 female (will cut female ends)
  6. DC jack female to 2 male DC jack (splitter, extra)

Some giveaway stuff I’ll be receiving soon

  1. 2 nos 3.5mm aux cables
  2. DC jack male (barrel?) with wire
  3. Nokia 5v 2a usb charger

The audio boards have 3 pin audio input. I’m presuming the 3.5mm cables will have only 2 wires per. How can I wire this to the 2 boards.

What I want to do

  1. 2+2 front stereo for desktop or
  2. 4 speaker combo as one piece taped up
  3. If the other 2 options don’t sound good or if any of the speakers are damaged than 2 separate 1+1 stereo sets.

If I’m satisfied with the sound will try bluetooth next.

All agreed. The upfront cost is quite low for the boards. I just want to try it out. If I’m not able to solder then will get it done from the local market or a friend’s office.

I’ve chosen PAM8610 over the TPA3110 because I will never get a 24v power supply and the reviews seem better with volume and bass.

The speakers are sourced from old tvs. Don’t want to take the risk of giving them to much power and blowing them out.

for proper sound quality - if you are after it? get 3116d2 based amp.

For DIY first make sure that - does it even make sense because ZEBRONICS Astra 35 exists at so cheap price.. search 3116d2 on robu for your options.

There are 3 wires, normally. Left, right and ground.

Sometimes there is fourth one too which is for mic, which you don’t need.

If you use this splitter.

Then you will end up with two pairs of Left Right Ground wires for each board.

There are two kinds of splitter available in the market, one which splits the male 3.5mm into 2 female 3.5mm jacks, the above.

The other one is where it just splits the mic from the 3.5mm. Like this one.

Don’t buy this one by mistake.

To avoid cutting the wire, you can buy modules like these. These allow you to tap in easily.

Sleeve - is Ground wire.
Ring1 and Ring2 will be left and right.

Don’t expect crisp clean audio.
Some humming and noise might be waiting for you.

I’ve spent 120rs for the speakers and 150rs for the other giveaway stuff. Rest on the website is under 500rs shipped. Have the adaptor. So total would be 750rs for 40w 6 ohm. I don’t need battery or bluetooth.

Speakers have their own enclosure otherwise would have not tried this at all.

My man if you just told me what would you use them for i might’ve included amps in that too

I meant the mix with 2 different set of speakers. I know more is not always better.

LOL. But isn’t that to be expected from all sub 1.5k usb speakers. In comparison will just lose volume control, which I don’t need.

I have another samsung 10w+10w 6ohm speaker set connected to an external lcd display board. Have no clue what chip/amp it has but sounds as good as any 10/15 yr old premium tv. This is what has given me the courage to do this. The TV speakers were bigger and better before.

Its been some time, forgot about TRRS.

If I use these, will need 1 connected to each board and then a male to 2 male cable. Haven’t seen these. I would actually prefer female to 2 female.

I was going to cut the female ends. Use the splitter for 2 boards and keep both the female ends if I want to seperate the sets later. The other modules would be better though for seperate. Buy male to male aux cable or male to female aux as per length required.

Oh bhai. You were so kind and quick that I really didn’t want to bother you further.

I had a feeling you did all this too.

Anyone wondering, I got the speakers from him. It was a giveaway.

Yes. Male to male will be needed.

Whatever works for you.

if the wires come out looking like this, then you need to scratch it to remove the protective layer, otherwise you won’t be able to solder it. Quick burning with lighter also works.

LOL , since few days i was doing the same planning and here i see your thread , so here is how what you need .
