Bitwarden, although i plan on moving to a self hosted alternative soon.

Bitwarden Free Plan

I am self hosting vaultwarden on an Oracle VPS (free-tier). It is working well for about 3 years.

Is it the free tier that Oracle offers?

Wondering about the preference for self-hosting when using Bitwarden. The free version is hosted on Microsoft Azure, so not sure one can ensure better security on a self-hosted solution.

Even otherwise, the key file is encrypted and if breached, you would actually get a notification first when using their solution to change the master password.

The LastPass case was completely different.

Been using Bitwarden from last 3+ yrs, switched from LastPass

Selfhosting Vaultwarden on Docker and using Bitwarden as client, rock solid for over 3 years now.

It’s more from the perspective of trying the self hosting route out of curiosity and not security.

1Password Family. Bit on the expensive side but the UX has been great for a long time. Though, it is relatively more buggy lately, esp. the browser extension side. TBF, I don’t know if it’s strictly an app issue or limitations imposed by Apple since I daily drive Safari and Apple devices.

If anyone switched over from 1Password recently to Bitwarden/Proton Pass, would love to know how the experience is on macOS/iOS. Might jump ship during next renewal.

Mac user here. I was using 1Password Family for the longest time, and then I switched to self-hosted BitWarden before switching back to 1Password. It works like it is supposed to for the most part, but the UI is not the best. What I missed was the the global hot key to launch 1Password. Apart from that, BitWarden is free, and for that it works perfectly fine.

I switched back to 1Password thanks to an excellent deal and some Apple credit.

What exactly are you finding buggy with 1Password extension? And on which browser? I use it on Brave and Orion.

I am using my iPhone’s default password manager app. I know it does not sync to my desktop but I do most of my stuff on phone these days if I am not on my work laptop.

I daily-drive Safari for the most part and there are times the autofill bugs out across all devices. Unlocking the desktop app doesn’t immediately unlock the extension or at times, the connection gets disrupted entirely and I’m forced to enter my password again and again. Frustrations like that. Besides that, I wish they could provide more granular sharing options than just creating a new vault everytime I need to share. There were a bunch more that I gave them as feedback.

I’d definitely want the quick access to 1Password, if that’s what you’re talking about missing in Bitwarden. Well, I’d be fine if at least I can imitate that via Raycast somehow if there’s a Bitwarden extension there. I map mine to Hyper + P so I can quickly copy stuff and paste if autofill is not available or if it bugs out.

You can sync on newer systems with the Passwords app and an Apple account: Set up iCloud Keychain - Apple Support (IN)

Google chrome password manager

Yes! That’s the one.
