What's your perspective on the India's future?

I think it’s better to get pregnant in South Korea.

They do but you missed out my rest of the point.
this is just a start. Their demands will keep increasing.

I will try to give you an example of the scene…

10 years ago to climb a mountain I had to take permit from Indian Govt through IMF in Delhi( Indian Mountaineering Foundation) in ladakh they had an office in Leh .

few years down the line. The villagers near those Mountains started to ask money in name of environmental fees ( to keep mountains clean) …okay fair enough.
Then they started to take over all the campsite near those base of the mountains where stream flows and force you to pay for using that land to pitch your own tent ( as if its there own property now) …

If that was not enough… They initially stopped accepting Permits of IMF and said you have to take Permit from local authority .
Later after much Hue and cry…they finally accepted to have IMF presence too but the office is shared with All Ladakh association ( ALTOA) …Now Central Government Institution has to share its office with Local Tourist operating Association.

And the person also Who is doing the work now has to be Local.

This is just one small example . I can give you plenty of examples where they have made it very hard for people from different parts of India to work.

Do you know you they do not allow taxi from other states like Himachal and Delhi and all for local sightseeing in Ladakh. You can enter but then you will have to switch to local car.

same with Bikes. Rental bikes are not allowed for sightseeing.
This is again their Local restrictions.

They have even attacked Taxi and Bikes coming from Himachal to stop this.

Bro, the government of India is completely helpless there. They really are very strong with forcing their own rules and regulations.

Due to huge tourist boom they want their own local people to make as much money as possible and do not want any competition .

There is lot more going on there then just democratic demand for statehood.

I have a strong feeling that they may seek separate country too at somewhere near future like Punjab and some north-east state.

A few days of blockade for buses and trucks carrying goods from other parts of India to Leh will bring them back to their senses , but it is the same in most places . IN TN when one goes on a pilgrimage tour to Kumbakonam , Chidambaram there are people who jump out of nowhere and collect parking charges , entry charges etc .

it is much worse there. They even charge you for camping on Highway Roadside ( Manali-Leh Highway) once you cross the Sarchu area and you enter Ladakh …their area.

The treat entire Highway also like their own property.

All these Dhabas running along the Highway are connected with local Buddhist Monastery or Association of that particular area and they extract money from tourist( car campers, Bikers, Cyclist, trekkers) camping there

I can show you the slip …the slip says " Ladakh Buddhist Monastery Association something and asking for fund to build Buddhist Monastery and Chorten.

And Each Monastery now controls the particular section and seek money like a poll tax.

We wanted to refuse to pay but we were carrying lakhs of rupees of stuff with us and incase things would have got out of hand they would have attacked our gears .

We could loose lakhs of rupees stuff for Rs 300 but we definitely did make it hard for them.

“Neha Arora, who is married to a South Korean man“…

Currently, Indian population is facing lower than replacement growth, which means in very few decades, India will be a country of old people.

@solo_wing Ladakh is an environmentally sensitive region and people of different culture. Unfortunate reality is that irresponsibly reckless tourism ravages not just environment but local people and their way of life too.

Tell me, all that behavior you explained, is it the reason for not letting them have their government, or is it the result of that?

I am asking an honest question. I have not been there.

When things move slowly, we may often confuse cause with results.

Indian democracy has one giant problem. It systematically keeps smaller governments, like states and local ones, poor. They have to beg the center for funds.

No developed country does this. Not even China.

Maharashtra is the richest state by any metric. Pays almost 38% of the country’s tax. And yet the state govt is poor as f. Nah, it’s not ladki bahin yojana, the problem is constitutional.

India will never be a developed country with babus in the center pulling all the strings for 1.5 billion heads.

The way I see it, these people are barred from making decisions for themselves. I’m sure the License raj must be running from Delhi. Rather than relying on Delhi for everything, people began to capitalize on local resources, possibly due to feeling constrained?

First watch this video.

The reason I am sharing this video is to show that Ladakh was definitely left out in many development when it was part of J&K during Congress rule. They have been demanding to be separated from J&K since decades now and be part of UT.
They got it.

Your point about statehood is fair too . But on ground level things are already run by them. Any other Indian coming there to work or do business there will already feel left out.

The Ladakh Association is very strong. When they pass a resolution almost entire people in main districts have to follow and even central government sometimes have to take back seat and negotiate with them.

The protest you saw turning violent is actually the result of them feeling the need to show their power to central government and bully them.

They tried to burn a CRPF Jawan in his car. Such incident will result in strong response too.
( however investigation is on)

And I have worked in Spiti valley too who are predominately Buddhist too and even they share same thoughts with me about Ladakhi people , who are also Buddhist of them being very self-centered now and arrogant.

Infact in those days we use to think they are just jealous because Ladakhi people have done good for themselves but over the years we have experienced it and whereas People from Spiti have been trading since centuries with Ladakhi people through mountain valleys ( barter system)

Also Ladakh people are no longer poor Sir. They did face lot of hardship in 1950s with harsh climate and no road connection and they deserve good life today which they are enjoying very well thanks to booming tourism.

Ladakh is one of the top tourist destinations in India with lot of adventure activities too and attracts rich European and American tourist who dont hold themsleves back when spending money .
I know many Ladakhi’s making enough money in 4 months of tourist season to not work for the rest of the year.

Some of their children are now studying abroad too.

They seem to be very desperate to protect this and not share their growth with the rest of the country and they only keep coming with more and more rules to isolate rest of India as explained in previous post.

This is what I genuinely feel . I have nothing personal against them .

@TEUser2K1 Ladakh people themselves have been promoting tourism at scale unimaginable. As long as it fills their pocket it is fine but moment they see anyone else coming in . They will shout Environmental issue. Not denying that Ladakh is not environmental sensitive zone. Infact they are facing huge water crisis too with Glaciers retreating and Snow fall lesser and lesser by each year.

but All those Tents and Dhaba near environmental sensitive areas like Pangong Lake and Big Hotels near Tsomoriri are all run by local only.

The Monastery in areas take like a hafta vasooli and let locals open Dhabas and Homestays in Highways and trekking sites.

People often call Hindu Babas driving Mercedes and living luxury life . they should see some of the Monks. they might leave their jobs.

it is becoming a big chain of racket now.

many here may not know but even Sikkim has Monastery running the show like a boss.

one Bengali group I know had gone to climb Mt. Kachenjunga about 14 year ago.

They had fixed all the rates with local porters and sherpas. When they arrived The local sherpas started demanding 2.5x times that is because the Monastery intervened and told them not to go for that rate. Ask High price.

Their Entire Expedition Budget got screwed up because raising funds in India anyways for expeditions is huge challenge and then at the same time if suddenly you are asked to raise to 2.5 times. It can f**k up all your plans you have been making for years.( it can take years to plan an expedition of this scale)

Over the years I have gone mature enough to understand not to fall for activist completely as ground reality even they might be having a hidden agenda.

Btw as per BJP IT cell. ( Can’t trust them but photos and videos are there )

Congress councillor behind instigating the violence.

Weren’t they protesting peacefully for last few days or so, why didn’t govt. negotiate with them for long ? This so called ‘activist’ was favorite pet of ruling party few months back or so.

Anyways, these kind of regions are disconsolate, have no idea how they work out.

Regarding the chronic greed side, that is how it naturally works out when tourism become reckless business. Sad and unfortunate reality.

They have been negotiating peacefully since last few years not just last few days. I was there last year when Sonam and many were doing the walk till Delhi from Ladakh.

Ofcourse recently they got violent that too according to news from BJP IT cell is congress led but since it comes with photos and videos I see it is mostly instigated. ( like posted above)

Not coming to the point of this activist being favourite pet of ruling party.
This is how Indian politics has always been they do support people till it is fine for them and then same people become headache for them.

And I dont even know where I am defending ruiling party here?

I am just saying their demands are only increasing and their behaviour is self -centered on ground level. It is dangerous to give them too much power . That is my general understanding based on my regular visit there and even working with people there.

Look when @kloud mentioned about them having statehood is fair demand. I agreed that they probably should have that as well but at same time they are getting increasingly self-centered state and isolating themselves with the rest part of the country.

It could become like North-East of India where we will literally have to apply for Visa( ILP) to even visit.
As it is entire burden of this country falls on to few states- Maharashtra ( being no.1), Karnataka, West Bengal, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh.

and with language issues we are already seeing more and more isolation.

I am just worried about where this could be heading .

Was viewing the case as a layman, as a person without any interest in the parties involved.
Didn’t intent you were defending any party at all.
I remember our top leaders celebrating Ladakh and their leaders, their glorious future and lot of bonhomie between them few months back. Suddenly how things changed is interesting.

If they deserved a state or administration, let them have it at as per the standards of democracy, have laws which protects the system and politics of that place. Negotiations should be done than take benefits from them and ignoring them. Otherwise, don’t know how it all will end-up in such regions. Now, it seems brute-force solutions are in the foray…

But, if those states are comfortable with all this, who cares ?

One of the protestors confirm that both sides( protestors and Security people) were first engaged in stone pelting and then the security people started shooting.

So I am not sure how come these peaceful protestors believe they can continue throwing stone .
Still I hope there is proper enquiry on this which I also doubt unless Supreme court orders CBI probe.
