WTB: Original ROG Ally Backplate

My original backplate is cracked and also one of the back macro buttons is damaged.

Since my Ally is still under warranty, I am looking for an original replacement shell.

Not sure if anyone would have one lying around from a dead device but I am also okay if someone can assist with making a purchase from US as I don’t think it will be possible to get a new one locally.

Seeking the Same solution

If it is a usability issue, I 3D printed a replacement one that fits fine and might work for you. Still working on adding grip and standing ability to it though.

But I need an original one to use for warranty as my Ally seems to have developed an issue and I want to send it to the service centre but a broken back shell will definitely lead to rejection and charges.

I have no problems doing it, but I recently had my SSD fail on me and I gave them the SSD seperately, the back cover seperately and the remaining ALLY seperately with zero screws. They replaced the SSD and reassembled it in one day, no questions asked.

Mine has an issue now where it doesn’t boot on battery but does so when charger is connected and then works fine on the battery.

Let me try to raise a warranty request for this issue and also mention the shell damage and see what they come back with.

Replacement shells anyway cost $30-40, so it is a significant amount.

The Ally has a safety feature where in to avoid it turning on during transport from the factory by an accident power press inside the box, there is a light sensor on it’s back inside the back cover. So if the back cover is removed or in your case broken , the Ally will not turn on unless you attach the charger first . Once you attach the charger it will turn everytime till you remove the cover or in your case broken cover might be letting light into the sensor .

Thanks, it is indeed where the back button is broken. Covered the photosensor with electrical tape and it boots fine on battery.

Contacted Asus customer care and as expected they referred to it being possible customer induced damage with 250 diagnose charges at service centre or 800 on site with additional charges for labour and parts with tax.

Guess it is not worth it for the time being as it will run up a significant bill and I can still use the 3D printed back, though also need to redesign back buttons to use different screws as the original ones are stripped.

In the meantime, if an original back shell turns up for a respectable price, then will still pick it up as I still have more than half a year warranty on it.

Happy to help
