WTB: Synology Ds420j or ABOVE 2/4 bay budget synology NAS

Apparently, due to my carelessness, my Synology DS420j mobo got submerged into water which permanently damaged it. I still need to check if the HDDs are ok, as they were not submerged.

Looking to buy a working Synology DS420j or similar.

You can get a USB SATA powered enclosure I guess if all you wanna do is test the HDDs?

Aside: how did you end up submerging it?

My conjecture: He kept it on the floor and the room got flooded due to rain. The motherboard at the bottom got submerged but not the HDDs.

Same thing happened to me, but my PC didn’t have anything at the bottom so it didn’t get damaged. It was a very sad day. My whole house on the first floor was flooded with a couple of inches of water. I came back from vacation at 9 pm after driving for 8 hours. It was a nightmare. A rat had completely ruined my complete house and rain had flooded my house.

Not exactly, my synology was in it’s dedicated cabinet, mounted on the wall, but there was some water leakage on the top ceiling of the Shaft the cabinet is mounted in. And the cabinet has holes on top of it for air passage, water entered through the holes and rest it same, as motherboard is at the bottom, it got submerged, hdd did not.

I live on second floor and still managed to get this damage done

I ordered one from PIBOX to test the HDDs, but want to have synology as well due to the convenience it provides as a NAS.

Bump.

I’m looking for any 2/4 bay Synology NAS, should be between 19-22 series to suit my budget.

Not sure if this within your budget

Thanks, looks like it’s sold already, will check with seller anyways.

Did you try warranty repair from Synology? It should still be in warranty as I think you bought it at the same time as me, January 2024. These come with 2 year warranty. Even if they refuse warranty repair, you can probably get a paid estimate for repair.

That’s correct, we bought it during that flipkart deal. I wasn’t sure if flipkart sold units would get warranties.

But let me contact them anyways. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of Hassel of sending the unit to a tier 1 city, but let me try first. Do you think I should contact the seller of try to find and contact service center directly.

I would contact here first

Thanks, they asked me to connect where I made the purchase from.

Invoice says “MPS Telecom Retail Private Limited”, can’t find their contact details online. Do you have any idea how can contact them?

Then try contacting flipkart, but I don’t think you would get a positive response from there.

Just connected with them, after 10 minutes of call with level 1 and then level 2, they lodged the case and now saying they’ll contact with me by 17th. Let’s see how it goes.

And thanks man for your suggestion.

Still looking for a DS220j or higher Synology.

Did you look into xpenology? I think you can recover your data that way.

This is interesting, something I didn’t know existed.
I use Synology services up to an extent and I believe I’ll loose them If I setup XPEnology.

This is great as a secondary offline NAS. Thanks for this.

I have one. Will put it on sale here
