Xbox Series X: New vs Used – Worth the Investment?

Yo, quick question for the squad: Is it worth grabbing a brand-new Xbox Series X right now, or should I just go for a used one and wait for the next-gen drop?

The new prices do not make sense as due to limited stock there are no discounts.

An old xsx should be sold 30-35 depending on age and condition. Mine is running like a champ since mar 21 and has minimal dust buildup compared to my PS 5. Go for pre owned here or in local shops.

You want to buy new at the end of the cycle of the console. Specially when it has not even seen price drop infact prices have seen increased.

Just buy a used one with good condition and be happy that we saved you some money.

Unless you have an Xbox library (digital or disc based), I don’t think it is worth it to buy a series X in any form now. Better to build a PC.

In case you have a library already, better to buy a used Series X. Is a new Series X available anywhere?

I was mostly a PlayStation kid growing up, with an occasional friend with a Nintendo console, so from my side I always wanted to try Xbox. You remember that Halo special edition that came out a while ago? That’s what I got.

And man was I disappointed.

There were no exclusives worth my time, all of the games that “were good” were third party games that I could have also played on my PS5.

So I ended up doing random stuff like buying old X360 games that I wanted to play back then (Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon).

Once that was finished, I just sold the console

Now regarding your question, go with a used one and see if you like it.

Thanks guys, I will be on the lookout for a pre-owned one here as well, do drop me some :fire: deals if you come across one

There is one available in the Marketplace sub-forum

That’s a good deal. I sent him an offer but he doesn’t want to take shipping risk.

Get a used console without controller. Buy a new original controller, game pass core (6/12 months) and game pass ultimate (1 month) with the money saved. When gamepass expires, decide if it was worth it or sell it and move on.

Are there any known problems with xbox series x?

Get a used one not many games are releasing for it with used one u can get game pass for year that’s best deal or else i think better option would be if you are open to it ,just get/make a PC with used parts that’s would be way cheaper in long run and you can play Xbox games plus ps5 exclusives after 1-2 year of their release date also upgrade it in near future.

Personal experience: Bought a 13 months used Xbox Series X in 2022 and it’s still running flawlessly in 2025.

My game time is at least 4 hours a day and sometimes I did stretched for over 10 hours as well.

The Machine is a beast

However, I strongly recommend not to buy a used console from offline/online stores, there are news about these guys changing components and selling out.

Preferred mode of purchase (for a used one) must be through a console owner.

PS: I am a proud owner of all XBOX consoles from the OG XBOX since 2002 and have used every later generation XBOX till series X.

For me, the breaking point was price versus lifespan. New Series X consoles aren’t really dropping in cost, and with the next cycle creeping closer, dropping full retail just didn’t make sense. I eventually tracked down a used unit sitting in that ₹30–35 k sweet spot, gave it a once-over, and was honestly surprised. It was cleaner than my own PS5, fans whisper-quiet, and no signs of abuse. Fired it up, ran a few games, and it was indistinguishable from a fresh-out-of-the-box unit. That was the confirmation I needed: paying the “new tax” wasn’t worth it.

Online, I couldn’t find the Series X brand new except for maybe on Flipkart. Series S is available though a little outdated now. If MS doesn’t want to serve the market, why give them your hard earned money. Instead, get a PC if you like Game Pass, else consider a PS5 for better first party offerings (albeit weaker than previous gens).

Dont really see any reason why anyone would get it over PS4 slim/pro

You mean the PS5?

my bad, i saw first page comments referring it to end of life console and i mistook it for oneX (Confusing names  )

is it really ad end of life cycle already.. before GTA6 !!

It is better to buy used than new one.

lol this is so true, I bought the xbox x and 3 months later got a gaming PC and haven’t touched the xbox ever since. Its just sitting there doing nothing and almost all games are available on windows and better with my 4070ti.

Hit me up if you want to sell the Xbox some time in the near future :face_with_tongue:
