So who exactly decides this ?

Why is http://bleacherreport.com/ blocked ?
Bleacher Report is an American digital media company based in San Francisco and covering hundreds of teams and sports around the world.

Using MTNL Mumbai btw.

Which ISP are you on? Please share. If Airtel, then they have a nice filter running which blocks most stuff, even if they (the webhost/hosted page) is/are not doing anything illegal.

Maybe its time to start a new trend - #RightToInternet.

EDIT : Just saw MTNL Mumbai. Damn!

I'm using Open DNS.

The point is who decides & why are sites blocked without any sort of discussion. How can anyone have so much power ? Tomorrow he/she/they may add this forum to the list.

I also don't know who is complaining to block these websites. I know that companies holding copyright of movies, songs, software's are very active in this matter. They must be applying to block websites that they don't like. When this all started sony was involved.

They are blocking more and more websites with each passing day. We in India don't have enough coordination to take actions against these moves. We talk but don't take much action.

For accessing blocked websites I suggest using Cyberghost VPN. It has both free and premium version.
For light use, you can use Free version. Just download and install it.

Copyright and broadcasting rights enforcement is the strongest when it comes to sports and sports broadcasting, not Movie or music industry. Channels like ESPN buy exclusive rights in the country and then ensure that other options are cut off.

Its the courts that decide when rights holders approach the courts. It is obviously not up for public opinion or discussion when they legitimately hold the rights. It is when things like unreasonable censorship happens (like entire youtube was blocked because of a case by a tamil movie producer or like when all torrent sites were blocked) that ISP's like Airtel and Reliance step up to the courts to challenge it.

It's always the production houses that block these sites, at least 5 filehosters have been blocked since the copy of Udta Punjab leaked online.
Since there is no mechanism or proper guidelines like the DMCA in our country, it's easy for these guys to just get a court to issue an order to the ISP's who then end up blocking the entire site instead of just reporting the link and getting the filehoster to take down the content in question.

I can access uploaded.net on my isp, the smaller isps don't care about these things, Airtel is the most aggressive blocker. The recent blockings are due to that Udta Punjab movie leak. But not sure why would you say a retarded Hindi movie instead of just a movie? Wait till MPAA mafia enters the country and bribes the Indian Government just like USA Government, you will be bankrupted and thrown in jail for downloading a retarded English movie then.

chill. are you from the usa or something where people get offended really quickly? MPAA won't enter india cause they already have some south india (Bangalore or Chennai based) company working for them here who is blocking and ddos'ing sites on their behalf. Also going to court and getting something like US court would be too difficult cause Indian judges are not like US judges who give million dollar fines at the drop of a hat. Also the Indian courts don't have that much time to run after piracy.

my isp takes internet from reliance. so you can understand my grievance. i said that r word under the impression that RIL starts blocking sites when its going to release some hindi movie and feels like it own the internet. you can diss english movies all you want. i don't care. lol.

Actually, what he said will come. If not, then they will put us on some sort of watchlist. Hopefully the current and successive governments take steps to alleviate the issue and not just allow the judiciary to issue diktats to fine people.
