1.5 Ton split AC purchase advice

This could sound redundant as there are quite a few posts already. But i couldn't make up my mind after reading them. So posting again here..

Need to buy an AC to my parents. Never owned an AC before..so no prior experience. All that is of help is the reviews on web and forums like TE.

Room size : 10 by 14 ft. 1 window on south and 1 window on east.Weather is quite hot in summer(reaches 42 deg sometimes). So im thinking 1.5 tons will do.
Usage: 2 to 3 Hrs in day time. 6 to 8 Hrs in the night. Will be switched off when not in use.

I read some reviews that few ACs need gas replacement every year. I don't want that. Less maintenance is a must. Also less noise is must.
From the usage pattern, i think an Inverter AC will do good. Plz correct me if i m wrong.
Is 5 star rating really a must? Other than energy savings, any other advantages? For good features, i can sacrifice a star or two :)
Bad smells, bacteria spreading inside or outside the unit is not desired. Need to be good in features like that..filters, dehumidifying action etc

Not really loyal to any brand, but i heard some good things about Hitachi, Daikin, LG. Please guide me here.
Budget is around 35k.

As far as I can remember the Sharp 1.1 Ton Inverters can cool an area of 160 sqft with ease if not the top floor. Else 130 sqft. Bargain well and you may get them at INR 31K with built in Plasmacluster air purifier.

Best of luck.:)

i've been using a 1.5 t panasonic CS-YC18NKY 3 star (2012 power rating ofcourse).. using it in a 12 by 20 foot room and was effective enough in the summers. Still to check out..
and i've been also using it for 2 hrs in afternoon and around 8-9 hrs in evening.... would suggest to go for this one if you are not going to use it for more than 10-12 hrs a day...

Thanks for the responses. I haven't decided any model yet...but order has been placed anyway.
Model is "Hitachi Sugoi 1.5 Tons - RAU518HSDD"
Can any one shed some light on this? Paid about 41k for this. I feel it is expensive

Thanks.
Actually, item was purchased in kind of rush, with out thinking through all options.
Anyway, i read in a review
"Also its Direct Efficient Technology adjusts the compressor speed and refrigerant flow to maintain the desired temperature, this is the same technology which LG is offering with branding of INVERTER V."
This means, there is something that does job of an inverter in the unit. Also, i read somewhere that if ur gonna use AC for 2 to 3 Hrs and switch it off, then inverter actually increases power consumption.

^^Congratulations on freezing your purchase decision. It is true that if usage will be limited (2-3 hours in your case), then it is better to go for a non- inverter model. However it becomes an altogether different ball game in this case as Sharp Inverter model is available at exactly the same price for the same tonnage.

About a non- inverter compressor adjusting its speed and refrigerant flow, I am not very sure of. Can you give us the source of the information?

Thanks.

Sorry to burst the bubble, your chosen AC is a non-inverter.

Inverter ACs are not star rated in India. Since they are super star rated.

For the price you paid, the wise decision would have been to go in the inverter way.

Anyway, enjoy.

Ah..i only wish i got all this gyaan before my purchase..

I have managed to cancel the order placed, with a bit of arguments and so..
Can i get some recommendations for good inverter ACs? Daikin is the way to go?
Since this is gonna be installed at my parents home, it may not need all the latest tech, but silent operation, long life, very minimal maintenance and ofcourse good cooling.

My room size is also 10x14 ft and i have a samsung 1.5t AC.Trust me all u need is 1ton...it feels like siberia at night time.i live in kolkata where temperature can go 40c and 98percent humidity in summer!!

Thanks..i ll keep that in mind.
Can anyone help me choose one out the below? which one is better
1) Daikin FTKS50FVMA - 54400 INR
2) Daikin FTKD50FVM - 44000 INR
3) Panasonic
CS-S18PKY - 50000 INR

hi, I have selected two 1.5 ton inverters for my two rooms. One is Hitachi other one is Sharp.

Any bad experiences from this two brands? Hitachi makes good ACs which I am sure of but I not sure about Sharp. But from the the other thread I found they are providing great products.

Thanks..i ll keep that in mind.

Very hard to tell. I have personally experienced only Sharp, Hitachi and LG inverters. I rate LG the best followed by Sharp and Hitachi.

Could not afford two LGs, hence went for Sharp.
