Hi guys,

A little help here. I'm planning to buy a 320 GB portable hdd.
I have to decide between a Seagate Freeagent Go and a WD Passport Essential

Cost wise WD is about 100-200 bucks cheaper but seagate has a 5yr warranty as opposed to WD's 3 yrs.
Moreover I like the seagate design better with its pulsating LED.

Now the only thing left is performance, could those of you having any of these two hdd's post a screenshot of the HDTune transfer speed benchmarks ?

It would be very helpful.

Thanks

For USB drives, performance is about the same. Simply because the bandwidth of the USB connection maxes out before the bandwidth of the HDD can. SO they all perform pretty much the same :)

I prefer the seagates for external cos of the 5 year warranty.

wd build quality is pathetic , squeaky n if pressurised will crack open , seagate is good , very strong n sturdy and well built too , also with 5 yrs warranty , this one is a no brainer.

I bought a Seagate Freeagent Go 320 GB black for 3750 bucks
Its great and has 5 years warranty :eek:hyeah:.

For would be buyers : Hurry up , Seagate has introduced another hdd with 2 yrs warranty only and would most probably be phasing out the 5 year warranty ones.
