Is it possible to connect a internet connection through router to the USB port of 1 PC, then connect another PC to the previous one through the LAN ports of both PCs. then use the internet connection from either of the PCs?

i am asking is the above scenario possible without using any other devices susch as switches, hubs etc.

It is possible, but slightly complicated. You can connect the modem via USB to PC1. Connect PC2 to PC1 via ethernet. Then you gotta setup up ICS or some proxy on PC1. Of course, PC1 needs to be switched on, otherwise PC2 will have no net access. A simpler option would be to get a router.

other then USB you can use an other lan card on PC1 and share internet connetion on PC2, you can also use a proxy to share the net connection.
Another option is to use a paralled lap link cable between PC1 and PC2 for connection and share internet, but parallel laplink cable has lenght limitation 1-2 meter beyond which you will suffer signal attenuation.
As already suggested best is to opt for a cheap router with 2- lan ports.

a little out of topic... Airtel is now giving wireless router with ethernet ports for a nominal deposit of Rs 500.. Simpler but out of topic solution :D
