Monitors 20" or 22" monitor

hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying an LCD monitor (20" or 22") so please suggest one based on my config.
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
MSI K8MMV motherboard(no PCIe slot)
512 MB RAM
64 MB graphics support by motherboard

Now obviously some of u might be thinking that why do I want an LCD monitor for this antique of a configuration. Well I'll change it a while later but as of now I will keep this only. I intend to watch 720p movies and play simple RTS games (and also WoW) on this monitor.

I'm currently confused between 2033sw (1600*1050) and 2233sw(1900*1080). As I understand, things (especially text) look really bad when not run on native resolution. So kindly tell what is the max. resolution my comp. will be able to support and accordingly if I should go for 1050p or 1080p.

Ur configuration is somewhat low. But I think ur config should support 2233SW also. But just don't expect wonders with it. U'll not be able to play 1080p videos on this LCD.

So IMO, go for 2233SW now, and later upgrade to a good configuration & a good graphics card. Because LCD is something which u can't keep on changing, like CPU... So don't go for a lower end LCD based on ur config, go for 2233SW now & upgrade ur CPU later... just my 2 cents..
 
go for the 22 incher.and start saving up,like saqib said to upgrade ur system.

u can always upgrade ur system but not ur display cause it's gonna burn a hole in ur wallet!!!
 
i wud rather recommend Samsung 2033SW (Ditto same as Samsung 2233SW, just 2" smaller) which is a Huge 3k cheaper (retails for 6.9k/7.3k)...

IMO Best Vfm monitor in the market right now.

as for ur confusion: evrything looks crystal clear on 2033SW (720p as well as 1080p) and FYI its a 16:9 aspect monitor jst like 2233SW.

nice but Whats missing in T2200HD? i mean, its a gr8 price as compared to the 12k E2200HD...
 
No HDMi (can always buy DVI-HDMi adaptor, I dont have PS3 etc also), No Speakers (useless), No 1:1 pixel mapping (if we have ATi/Nvidia card then we can enable in control panel, so its marketting gimmick).

T is Piano black glossy finish (frame not screen, screen is non reflective in both), E is black silver.
 
hey isnt pixel mapping a useful thing? coz it may be a nice thing as v all have ati/nvidia :)

Does any monitor in OP's budget Sport this feature?
 
Yes its useful, pixel mapping = keeping same same ratio for even non native resolutions or stretch image to full screen etc.

I meant T2200 lacks this feature, but if we have ATi/Nvidia card then no worry, we can force in control panel. End result is same.

1) Will my rig even be able to drive this resolution. 'Coz I till I get a new one, I want to run the monitor on it's native resolution only. Games and 720p can wait for a new rig, but word processing can not. That's why I want to know if my rig can just run basic desktop applications at these configs. Currently with my 17" CRT plugged and with XP I don't see any option above 1280*1024.

2) any words on direct comparison between t2200(~9K) and 2233sw(~10.5k). personally i like the beauty of samsung2233sw :). Also what about after sales support in these two.

Ans1: yes u can run ur desktop at native resolution of the monitor w/o a single hitch.. (evn a 32mb on-board gfx can do that).

And ur system can easily run 720p movies on the monitor (may need a bit tweaking though, as ur CPU n GPU is weak)

Ans2: Samsung has got the Best A.S.S. and comes with a 3-year warranty..

Personally i wud recommend Samsung over Benq because:

1. IMO the colors of samsung are nicer than benq (i know nicer isnt a technical term, nor i want it to be)

2. Better A.S.S. as mentioned

3. Better reliablity of samsung monitors over benq. (my experience)
