I am purchasing a Dell Venue Pro off Dell's website when I came across this -

I can choose either 3G optimized for AWS networks (T-mobile etc) or for PCS networks (AT&T etc). This is going to be used on Vodafone India. Which should I choose? I am using a T-mobile HD7 as of now so I think I would be fine with the first option i.e. AWS networks.

What is the difference between the 2? Couldn't really find much on the interwebz.

I think it must be something to do with the 3G band that is used. T-Mobile and AT&T use different frequencies for 3G.

I don't remember which ones work here. :P

I'm not really gung-ho on 3G anyways. Got wi-fi everywhere else. 2G is good enough right now. This doesn't have to do anything with the phone functioning normally right? Only whether 3G will work properly right?

Yup, AWS ought to be fine since T mobile uses 2100 MHz freq too, which we also use here.

Both AT&T and T-mobile 3G bands are compatible with our 3G network! You would get 3G irrespective of which optimization you opt for.

@Pat, does either T-mobile or AT & T operate in 2100Mhz band? I don't think so.

T-mobile operates in 1700 UMTS band while AT & T in 850 and 1900Mhz. But almost all devices locked to these provider support 2100mhz band also ( barring few exceptions) since it is most used band for UMTS.

Wrong info pat, Not all devices on AT&T have 2100 MHz 3G band which is necessary for 3G to work in india.

Yep. My bad. Most AT&T and T-Mobile-branded phones support 2100 MHz and work with 3G in India. That's what I wanted to convey :)

PCS = US model: 850/1900/2100

AWS: 900/1700/2100

As they both support 2100 you'll still get 3g where ever 2100 3g is available.

I would not suggest you to get AWS version, instead get PCS version. The 1700 MHz band is used as dedicated uplink (upload). Means you won't be able to use HSUPA in India if device supports AWS bands instead of PCS. You can still use HSDPA though.
