Graphic Cards 6950/6970 Price Hikes?

mav2000

Guide
Yes, 6950/6970 prices have been hiked since I bought them atleast. I bought my last 6950, a powercolor ref 2GB ver for something like 14k including shipping and taxes way back about 8-10 months ago.

Now I dont see any 6950's around for anything less than 20k....is there something happening that I cant figure out???

And whats with the hardware manufacturers over pricing the 7970 and GTX 680...wow do these things ever end. I was hoping the new 7950 would be in the 15-17k range as it has always been for the second highest single GPU card of the AMD family. But it looks and stinks like price collusion to me.

I am not going to buy them at these prices and thought about adding another 6950 for a CF solution to last me another year. But thats gone to hell as well with the kind of absurd prices I see now.

that is exactly what mav stated.. the prices should decrease to 12-14k for 2gb.. instead it is increasing..further the dollar rate has stabilized also and is hovering around 49-50.. so why is the question

oh sorry dont know what was i thinking and understood complete opposite

anyways there should be some clearance sale for 6950 as 7850 will take 15k slot

It's a matter of time when HD7850-15k or more releases no one will buy the HD6950's for 16k or more,so the prices will go down eventually.I think it's the hike in tax causing the price hike, every product is having 1k price hike.

^Exactly what Jakob said, after the 7850 and 7870's release with the same price as that of 6950. no'ones gonna buy. That means 6950's price will fall imo and i m also in the same league. I will also be crossfiring my 6950 with another one in coming 5-6 months(If found necessary)

that adds two to the club.. i will also cf my 6950(6970) when the price comes down

Ya Sure Sir. Same here. That's the reason i bought 6950 actually(i could have bought it before though
<
) anyways was tired of waiting and had missed so many titles. When performance drops Crossfire will rise. \m/

waiting for market section to fill up with 560's and 6950's or for that matter 5850/6850

its been 3 months i have not played any game leave aside 7554 @ low settings ... need my eyecandy back desperately

AMD please prize 7850 @ 15k we will see many upgraders

7850 stock = 10% faster than 6950

7850 can be overclocked to 30-40% which increases performance by 20-30% whereas 6950 doesn't really increase performance. So a 7850 OC performs btw 570 OC and 580 stock. and definitely better than any 6970 no matter on water cooling or not.

Same here, hope this price increase is just a spike before the market settles down once the 78xx series is launched. A 7850 in the 16-17k range would be sweet for AMD and the consumers as well, it will be the go to mid-range card unless nVidia surprises with a better card in this range.

I donno what sweet will it be for 7850 to be @ 15-16k. The 6950 2GB at the same price did deliver the same performance. :/

^ hahaha...please, no thanks

On a serious mote, what I meant was there is very little sense for people who already own a good 6xxx card to move to 7850, especially if it is priced at 15-16k.

As i am myself on 6950 if i want to upgrade i will go for a 7870 or maybe 7950 later on although afaik i'll go with 6950 CF. What i meant to say is that if some one who is not on 6950 or 6970 and is planning an upgrade then he should rather go with a 7850 over 6950 if prices match up with 1-2k difference.

Maybe not HD7850 has shown 15% improvement over HD6950 so after ocing it'll give 25-30% improvement over HD6950,so people will buy it if it's for 15k.

Plus the power consumption is sure a big deal!

Max TDP:

7850 = 130w and 6950 = 200w

So low power consumption, New Gen, Better performance, Same Price(if) I'll go with a 7850 any day over a 6950. But at the price i got the 6950, i just couldn't resist.

An oced 7870 has the potential to beat the GTX580, 7950 and also competes with the 7970.
