Graphic Cards 7900gt vs 7600gt (7900gt obviously!)

OK, I need some help here, Im confused whether or not to go for a 7600gt or a 7900gt.I read somewhere that the 7900gt is DX10 compatible? (I know its not a DX10 card but if its COMPATIBLE or not)
I was about to order the 7600gt from US but then it stuck me that it wont be future proof, might as well spend $100 more and stay save for 5 years rather than spending $190 and upgrading in 18 months.
Please help me decide with good reasons and please clarify if the 7900gt is a DX 10 compatible card or not.Thanks.
 
yeah sure..... even my 6800GT will playt crysis and all...but maybe with all the DX 10 effects turned off....

In the same way old Geforce 4s played Doom3, HL2, etc....but with some effects turned off....
 
DX10 effects will be off....Of course, the future is difficult to predict....so maybe nvidia will come out with a patch or something....

But I doubt it.

PS: This is where my knowledge comes to a grinding halt :P ..... for more detailed explanations on all this, wait for the true gurus to explain :D
 
good point..... if you re getting a 7900GT from abroad, it is a risk. There are too many cards failing for you to feel comfortable buying a card without warranty.

I suggest an X1800XT for the same or similar price....

Im planning to order a video card through my cousin who is returning from America.Which card shud i go for ,the nvidia 7600GT or the 7900GT.Ive checked the prices on tigerdirect.com and they cost $170 and $300 respectively.Do you think i can manage my gaming requirements with the 7600GT?Or is the 7900GT worth the xtra dough??Im planning on playing action and racing games like NFSMW,Fear,COD2,Quake4 etc and the ones coming in the future.Im thinking abt going for the 7600GT so that i can add another card later to get the SLI going on my new sys (I'll be buying one this week).Pls suggest the best option.Also suggest a good SLI mobo for AMD 64 3200 939 pin cpu.And are the Altec Lansing MX5021 worth their price?

Reply soon coz i need to send my cousin the detailsabt the video card.Also please mention the brand ie BIG,XFX,eVGA etc. i shud go for the video card.

Yes, Saiyan warned me about the Factory OC'ed and even stock 7900gt's going......kaput.....without warning.That raises a major issue now.

The MX5021 are THE best 2.1 speakers you will get..... No doubt abt that.

Abt the graphics cards, read the whole thread Saiyan linked to. There have been an unusually high number of 7900 cards failing.

If you get a 7900GT from abroad, you obviously cant avail of warranty. so, it is a risk.

I suggest you buy an X1800XT for around 300$ or a little bit more. I dont know if tigerdirect has it or not. But on Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras, and Electronics X1800XT has reached really low prices and they are superb bang for the buck.

ive used one, and all i can say is the next best thing after an x1900 :)
 
Well if you are getting cards from america then i suggest you go for ati:- ati X1800xt or if you have the money :- X1900xt

Well as far as Dx10 support is concerned , well none of these these cards have Dx10 support. If yuo want a card with dx10 support , then you will have to wait a few more months for nvidia to release their G80 gpu.

Well dx10 is entirely different from dx9 and dx 9 cards won't be able to run any games that need dx10. It won't even run such games let alone handle dx10 effects. But these games will take atleast another yr. to come into the market.

As far as games like crysis are concerned, they don't need a dx10 card. They will work with both dx9 nd dx10 cards. Ofcourse they will look amazing in dx10 cards!!!In the recent E3 conference,the Crysis-Demo ran on an Athlon 64 FX Processor and a single Radeon 1900 graphiccard.But it will look even better on Vista and DirectX 10 and for that you'll new a DX10 graphics card and Windows Vista.
Eg:- there was one demo of crysis which ran on dx10. On DX9 the smoke on the aircraft carrier just moves straight to the sky, but on DX10 the smoke moves slightly to the side because of the shockwave the alien produces. Also you will have far more objects in dx10.
And the second phase of the game wihc is set in the jungle will be even more amazing in dx10.

Mnay PC games shipping in the next year will be DirectX 9 titles. Since the number of Windows XP DX9 video card system owners will dwarf the Windows Vista DX10 video card installation base for quite some time, we'd have to guess that the DX10 game developers will create DX9-compatible fallback versions of their games to make them playable on current hardware.Most of the games released in the near future will be playable with both dx9 and dx10 cards.But then again there are other games coming which will run only on dx10 and if you wanna play them then you have np choice but to upgrade!!!!
